Worth remembering how mind-bogglingly recent the Magdalene Laundries were. The last one closed down on 25th September 1996, which means the Magdalene system outlived Tupac by two weeks.

Access to condoms without a prescription in Ireland only came in 1985. We repealed the 8th. There's a lot of ways in which Ireland is still bad, but it is an entirely different country.

Stupid, pointless continent. We need to hyper-Balkanise the entirety of Europe and place every territory under the Suzerainty of a state in the Global South until Europeans learn to behave like normal, civilised human beings.
Sounds delicious. In Amsterdam meatballs of minced pork and minced prawns used to be made in the Jordaan neighbourhood. They did this because prawns were cheaper than pork or beef in those days, and people just went to the beaches to collect them. The Jordaan neighbourhood used to be very poor.
