my guess is that most americans do not perceive these deportations for what they are -- systematic crimes, under a framework directed at the highest levels of government, the evidence of which is in this defiance (inter alia). the rest of the world would rightly call this crimes against humanity.

As a historian of meat and meat safety, I'll second this: "The notion that any profession or industry can self-regulate sufficiently to prevent population health harms is NOT CREDIBLE. Self-regulation is an abject failure in this regard." Ask me about lumpy jaw.

Today was the day. It was the first time my newly minted elementary schooler came home and informed me he had done his first active shooter lockdown drill. (He did not use the words “active shooter”). He reported it so matter of factly. But all I could think about is how these shouldn’t be facts.

As someone who works on preparedness for and governance of pandemics (including pathogen genetic sequences, synthesis, and distinguishing bio-logical/safety/security risks) this thread aligns with where I consider the greatest current tangible AI risk to life: undermining decision integrity.

this article isn't bad, but it really skims over why her conflicts of interest (hawking supplements) is a problem for much more than her credibility—it means her interests will conflict with *all* her official duties. it means she can't do the job at all
