I deeply identify with this. I never loved marking but in the last 1.5 years I have gone from 'net positive love of teaching with some serious caveats' to ... some new normal that is barely tolerable.

A note on this: Just about every rural, and urban safety net, hospital receives about 2/3 of its revenue from government. And, of course, we have the VA. The United States has socialized medicine, but tries to say it doesn't, and so people die or go bankrupt on the altar of the "free market."

I'd love to see a study of the effects on faculty, students, and staff when they see their university as hypocritical, especially around issues of social justice. I imagine these are pretty common sentiments that have measurably negative effects. It'd be useful to have evidence of that.
