After Kil, the Värmlansbanan curves through a hilly landscape with countless lakes. The sun has just set and all is illuminated by a magical light! 🥰 Fortunately, we can enjoy this a little longer as we (again!) don't cross the border to Norway and leave the train at Arvika. #HullerOmBullar

Good bullar don't grow on trees, especially not where I live. The price to get one is travelling 1000 km north on rather unreliable lines. Trick No 1 is to cross Germany by night: Delay is less bad, if it means more sleep. First time in the new NJ sleeper, and I like it. #HullerOmBullar

I have no idea what a smart mug is, but they indeed paid attention to detail for the new X2000 interior design. As usual with SJ Snabbtåg, there is no ticket check as long as you're sitting on your reserved seat, so it is a very quiet ride up the Västra Stambanan to Katrineholm. #HullerOmBullar

The Snälltåget service to Oslo is an entire rake of former DB carriages. To my great delight including "Krogen", the train's @diningcar.at, which is one of the peculiar former German IR Bistros. Breakfast time! 😋 Preordered breakfast includes a cheese sandwich and a Kanelbulle! #HullerOmBullar

The peculiar interior of the Bistro car with low and high tables and benches in half moon shapes. Swedish and Norwegian flags hang from the ceiling. Two people queuing at the counter. Krogen from the outside, already in the signature red Snälltåget dining car livery. Coffee, Tea and Milk for self service on a shelf. Two red Snälltåget mugs in front of them, green landscape on the other side of the window behind it.Bullar (!) and coffee on a table in front of the Window, flat grassland and the sea outside.

I’ve a soft spot for these venerable AB30 sleeping-cars. Built in 1956 as P-types with 20 duplex single compartments, completely rebuilt in the 1990s with a more conventional 10-compartment layout usable as single double or triple. Only European sleeping car in stainless steel.

Tracks Worth Taking #4 🇷🇴 Romania's Olt Valley between Sibiu and Râmnicu Vâlcea is a true hidden gem. Enjoy rural scenery, visit a monastery along the way—and if you're "lucky", ride a nearly 100-year-old Malaxa diesel railcar still in regular service. 🚆 #MyTrainMap

"Someone's sitting there!" My seat for the 20 minutes under the sea. On a eurostar train, both Train Managers have to sit in the vestibule of the extreme coaches for the duration of the Channel Tunnel transit. It means that we are in position should an evacuation be necessary.

A tip-up seat and notice asking to vacate if requested.
