Every once in a while I remember that in 2025 I walked away from 4 games during a strike, then in 26 I nearly lost my house, had my bottom surgery canceled less than a day before it was supposed to happen, lost a job at USPS because they don't cover trans care, then the temp job I had did layoffs.

Prior to spring of this year, the WoW team, which unionized in 2024, had gotten the lion's share of bargaining time. Other units found themselves stuck in the mud. Higher-ups were effectively stalling the whole process—unfortunately nothing new for unionized workers under Microsoft’s umbrella.
"For this whole year of bargaining on the Diablo side—and I imagine on the rest of the units as well—we received so few [bargaining] dates, but we kind of had the understanding that whatever WoW was able to win would at least influence and set the floor for the rest of our units,” Diablo senior environment artist Mahreen Fatima told Aftermath. “We adopted this messaging about how WoW's wins are our wins, so we should be out there mobilizing with them. But truly, I feel like the company dragged its feet and did a lot of posturing and wasting time until the very, very last moment this last month to finally be able to say, 'OK, yes, we are willing to extend this contract to everyone.' It takes the same amount of time, it drains you mentally and it leads to a worse translation in every case because, once you read the shitty translation, your brain will always try to adjust the shitty translation into a less shitty one first, instead of thinking of a proper translation right away.
Fun fact: "Reviewing an AI made translation" is more work for translators than just translating it themselves, because AI translations do not pass the sniff test beyond the most superficial. It's a loophole companies use as an excuse to underpay translators, and nothing else.

Reminder that it doesn't matter how good your actors are, your dubs will always be missing something if you refuse to invest proper money and time in scripts. The current best rates and turnarounds for adapters are so laughably bare minimum that the industry has been bleeding talent for decades.
"Where were the union VAs after the strike ended?" I've been here this whole time. Hosting coffee meet-ups. Attending committee meetings. Watching discord servers. I do it for free in my spare time, as does any union committee member. We may be quieter, but we are still here.
The 40 hour work week. Compensation for overtime. The right to organize and strike. These were not inherent rights given to all in the US and Canada. They were fought for by the courageous workers who came before us. On Labor Day, we remember how far we've come, as well as our fight left ahead.
