My mom’s only painting is this one from an intuitive painting night I dragged her to in 2018. “Run Down Happiness” was her immediate answer when asked for a title and I think about that all the time.

Hi, I’m Andrea. I create projects that get people to make art. The full commitment and control in the tail of James Mercer’s whistle solo at the end of “The Angel and the Fool” holy goddamn yes. Would you like to introduce yourself with a small song moment that you like?
Hi, I am Tressie, a professor & writer in The People’s Republic of Chapel Hill. I like the way Lionel Ritchie stylizes “purpose” in “Just to be Close to You.” That sound is the sonic crossroads of The American South. Would you like to introduce yourself with a small song moment that you like?
Cleaning my studio and it has come to my attention that the blank notebook/sketchbook/journal situation is out of control.
My cat does this thing where he lays on me so that his head is aligned with mine just right so that he can press his nose into the soft part my check and friends, it is a top tier cat-human interaction.
20 years from now when Riley tells this story at a party, it's going to be a MOMENT and their friends will live in respectful fear of their power from then on.
this is perhaps the best piece of journalism i have ever been involved with
WA voters: Return your ballot to a drop box. Don't get USPS involved in returning your ballot. Also, sign up for ballot tracking! You can do it at the WA Secretary of State website but if you are in King County, the King County Elections tracking is much better.
yall are gonna hear me say this a lot so here goes again: make plans to vote in person, and do it as early as possible. literally make turnout this election too big to steal.
How is already practically 4:30pm today?? So rude!
How I support myself as a writer is by not supporting myself as a writer and having an entirely different job and pretending this is a fun adventure I get to go on to make friends
Hi, this is your seasonal reminder to back up your computer, your cell phone, your voice recorder, your memory cards, anything you think is important. Make multiple copies, because hard drives fail and are very expensive right now. Sometimes you drop you phone into a lake. Do it sooner than later.
There was a time when a person could employ a service or engage in a transaction and would not be asked once—much less hounded—for a rating and feedback thereafter. This I would like The Children to know.
Me: it’s time to make the pies. Cat: or we could nap. The cat has the better idea now but future me will be pretty damn happy about pie.
Yesterthem Nostalgia, collage and image transfers, 16x20 inches on panel. I usually like a lot of untouched negative space in my work and I'm trying something different here. It's messy, as memories and nostalgia often are.
My dog’s mole strategies, in order of escalation: 1. Try to dig it out. 2. Stick head into the hole and snort at it. 3. Pee on the pile of dirt and kick it around while snorting loudly. (None of these strategies have worked.)
This is going to be my necessary pre-winter expenditure and I hate it.
4 new tires?! In this economy?!
Identity Crisis, 14x11 inches on panel. One of three collages I've been working on for about a week. I don't usually work with figurative source material but this was for a show I'm submitting to with the theme Persons of Interest.
repair fairs and really really free markets are fun and you can organize them without waiting for your county to get its heart in gear
Our county runs monthly fix-it clinics where you can bring in broken items and handy volunteers will try and fix or mend them. Our food processor stopped working, and a kind, older guy walked me through troubleshooting, identified a problem with the handle mechanism, and fixed it right there.
I have also taken care of a whole bunch of email and text correspondence. All with a sinus headache that refuses to budge.
I have caught up a pile of mail correspondence, some of it overdue since March!
Doom metal yoga and goth ballet at sliding scale prices? PDX really is the most amazing place.
Do you ever go to check your spam folder but accidentally open your sent mail and freak the fuck out for a hot second or is that just me?
Saw Weezer once and look, I’ll admit they have some good tracks but you can’t convince me they can follow Silversun Pickups on stage.
I dig The Shins. James Mercer has a lovely sense of melody. Port of Morrow is one of my most-played albums. But how many times are they gonna tour the old stuff without writing new stuff?
Back-then me who had recently discovered SSPU would not have believed they would be on tour with The Shins and fucking Weezer.
Carnavas from Silversun Pickups still does it for me in a big way. I hear one song and then I need to hear the whole album, loud, no skips, with Future Foe Scenarios and Little Lover’s So Polite played twice.
Effective immediately, sliced bread is renamed sandwich bookends.
I have spent time in the studio and taken the dog for afternoon pup recess in a nearby field every day this week.
I didn’t swear when the cashier told me the total at Costco only because I was too stunned to speak.
Several towns and two school districts in my area have logos that are variations on the same type of bridge, like there was a 10-for-1 graphic design deal.
Happy National Dog Day from me and Buckaroo. We met in August 2018 at the Humane Society. He loves wearing sweaters, keeping geese out of the yard, and playing hide-and-seek in the house with me when it’s too rainy to get a good walk.
