Public Librarian, current Library Director. MoBookFest co-chair. Bibliophile. Long Covid. Cooks, bakes, writes, sketches. Dumb Bluesky jokes. Sounders Fan in the Midwest. Overcommitted.

There are ropes and contraptions everywhere on my Mom’s deck. I am convinced they are preparing to float the house to South America like in Pixar’s Up.

So much of librarian ebook math is depressing. Ebook: $59.99 x 150 copies = ~$9,000 Eaudio: $89.99 x 150 copies = ~$13,500 Lending model: 24 months, then we need to re-buy Current holds: Ebook: 1,281 ~20 week wait Eaudio: 1,522 ~21 week wait This is a single title.

Book 1 is $59.99 went out 4 times. Cost per circ $14.99 Book 2 is $59.99 went out 4 times. Cost per circ $14.99 I'm not buying book 3. If the cost per circ was $5 or $3, I wouldn't mind. But that is WAY too high, especially for a thing that expires after 2 yrs.

I Re-read an old favorite, Straight Man, by Richard Russo - an academic comedy. Still relevant, and still an old favorite. I get these characters. William Devereaux Jr. is funny, unhappy, an ass, out of control, lost in his life, and everyone knows it. A marvel of comic storytelling. #booksky

"This is not rare. This is one of life's worst diseases." Professor Chris Ponting speaking about harm from graded exercise therapy and hospital care, and how patients have been let down for decades because #MECFS was wrongly thought to be psychological. (Clip from 2024)
