One thing that I feel doesn't get discussed enough: there are as many ways to make TTRPGs as there are ways to play and enjoy them. Whenever someone tries to tell you the "one true way" to build a TTRPG, please ignore them... they are wrong.

I am unbelievably touched that @dropout.tv titled my @dimension20.dropout.tv Adventuring Academy episode “A Duty of Care”

I’m overwhelmed today, but I want to circle back in a while to share the links to everyone & everything I cited. More soon.

We had a handful of books, a table full of mates, and enough confidence to get half t' rules wrong all evenin'. Somehow we still managed to have a grand time. There's nowt wrong with askin' for help, but roleplayin' games have always rewarded folk who are willin' to muddle through together.

I see ads for D&D/DM "coaching", is that something people actually sign up for? I feel like there's so much free material out there, and most new DMs are high school/college age or otherwise don't have the cash on hand, but maybe there's a market of people who best learn person-to-person?

This is how I got 2 Daggerheart campaigns started! A well made one shot starting adventure is a huge boon to any game.

#TTRPGTHOUGHTS 1 One-shots as a back-door pilot film? American TV used to have “Pilot season” where the various production companies produced pilots episodes for proposed TV series. Some of these were broadcast as stand alones to gauge public reaction. Some were “picked up” & made into series. 1

Played my first session of Stonetop last night and man, the world building on this is intense! It's like they reinvented the bestiary from first principles, not just a translation of creatures we all know. I'm having a blast with my Would-Be Hero!

Ok, forking response in a different direction for a different, if equally hand-waving point. Subverting the baseline is entirely valid as an approach, but not if you stop with the cool idea and just expect the GM to make it interesting for you. That’s crap.

Invariably if you make a TTRPG setting about being a thing, someone will ask “oh can I be literally anything else” Dnd players who want to role play tavern owners, aberrant players who want to play baselines, eclipse phase players who want to play Jovians
