Embargoing a dissertation is standard (even in normal circumstances) when the student hopes to turn it into a book.
Ryan asks why Cambridge would embargo the dissertation of a Black student that will predictably lead to her harassment shortly after her advisor killed himself even as he is stoking up the harassment.
That was fun. My DNS needed redirection. The fix was all pretty pain free. HostGator has now passed Gatoraid in my personal Gator rankings. Up to 8th place. So the blog lives on. I know. Hey! What's with all the boos and jeers. Hey, steady on. Give me a minute... OK, fine. Whatever. Here's the news.

What’s the most bizarre, eccentric rule you've ever encountered imposed by a landlord in a pub?
Back-to-School Pfiff! ☕️ Inspired by a DePaul class studying “third spaces” -- places outside home & work where we gather and connect. Tomorrow, Ceramic Coffee pop-ups from 10am–2pm. Students: show your school ID for $2 off a coffee drink!
How to flirt like it’s the ‘20s… Guest star Podcast Pip and I had a bit of fun with this one 😇
Hey Bluesky, I feel like this is a good place to ask: What's a good reference for folklore? Something not too arcane that will still take me beyond the obvious. (Asking specifically, this time, about mermaids and what happens when you kiss one. But feel like more questions will arise, so...)
We had the pleasure of Richard from Springbanks brewery to personally deliver a couple of their brand new award winning beers yesterday for us to pour in Bristol. With two of us being from the Midlands and one from Wolverhampton itself this is personally very exciting. Pouring soon 🍻👑 #bskybeer

Is this summer’s end? A few things need to be settled quick if it is. Like… do you pee in the forest for one thing. You call that a forest? Maybe a woodlot. Or just a stand perhaps. Not enough brush to be the bush. Definitely not the woods. Here’s the news.

This week's Dublin pub is another dog-friendly one...but it was so full of Young People it was hard to get good pix. Good pints and food for humans, though...we go to PYE. #SpeirGorm www.weirdodublinpubs.com/weirdo-guide...

Watching squirrels run along the utility poles and remembering this little pizza-loving squirrel-friend from the fall before last. Chicagoans prefer tavern style pizza, even the squirrels.
Today I have been mostly time travelling with Deutsche Bahn. At least I'll get a partial refund that will cover a couple of beers!
Was off to my niece for her birthday today. Cake, coffee, beer… But now I felt I needed to do a little quality control. Warm cider from the barn. A cider that took a long time to release, & I’m still unsure. But then I like its combo of slightly rustic notes with clear fruit.
Hostomice Fabián 14 on tap. In Berlin, at Muted Horn. My favourite Czech Dark Lager. 😍

For today’s @ftweekend.com I am at Dante at Claridge’s which is serving an extraordinarily dreary menu of room service quality food at excruciating prices while trading off the name of a New York landmark. A few extra notes in the alt text. www.ft.com/content/9649...

Finally got this week's pub-bothering out the door. Can't find any good ghost stories about Sin É, but it's good a vibey atmosphere. #SpeirGorm www.weirdodublinpubs.com/weirdo-guide...
I see @petebrownbeer.bsky.social has tackled the subject of the oldest pub in the UK. I really like the Aristotle reference and might even steal it as a penalty for using the term 'The British Isles'! Anyhow, I just also wanted to flag the work of @jpwarchaeology.bsky.social on the subject, plus ...
What is the UK’s oldest pub? It’s complicated
Many claim it’s Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem — but that’s not even the oldest boozer in Nottingham
