Simple narratives around race/class (e.g. "white working class" low attainment in education) obscure far more than they reveal and play into the racist narratives of the right. Looking @amit-singh.bsky.social's forthcoming book particularly important for unpacking this further.

...and the North-East does substantially better. The actual dynamics around the intersection of region with race, class, gender and disability would need detailed qualitative/ethnographic work in schools. The social conditions for education have to be understood geographically and historically.
