After Pale Grey Idol arrived recently, I looked back at the @undertow.bsky.social I have stories in, and I’m very proud to have seen my work appear in so many different projects by Michael Kelly. I have huge respect for his taste in weird fiction and love seeing my stories in these books.

The new book, the one I'm crowdfunding (this word makes me think I should be shirtless, hoisted by thousands across a mosh pit) is a flipping Delight of a book. It's words zipping around, twirling and somersaulting, walking on their hands and grinning when they fall. Hope it delights you too.

As an example, who would have thought that two of the biggest alternative music acts in the last decade would be prehistoric inspired Nordic tinged folk music, and Mongol throat-singing metal. Lean into the weird, whether that is bee parasites or garden bird feeding patterns Celebrate your weird 6/6

I have so much respect for my academic colleagues who become obsessed with Viking hack-silver, or 17th century brooches, or leather shoes from the Neolithic Levant and spin careers from it, and I think that level of specificity can help us write beautiful fiction 4/6

I wrote my short story Zaun König after finding out the English translation of the German name for the wren was the Chambersesque King of Fences. Find the strange stuff that fascinates you, and spin it into stories. As a writer, don't chase the market, let your audience find you. 3/6

My novella Crawl Space came about because I was fascinated by a plan of abandoned pneumatic postal systems I saw at the Deutsches Museum in Munich, and the fact I thought the word Calthemite sounded like a religious order. 2/6

Here's your semi-regular reminder to write the weird stuff. I don't just mean weird fiction, though definitely write that. Write the stories inspired by the weird, niche, things you find interesting. 1/6

A photographer is coming to the house shortly to get some pics for the local paper (sigh) (they did this last year, I noticed, for the Stephen King anthology) (now it is for the Jurgen Leitner book) (TIE-INS ONLY is policy I guess) I have: a raygun and a hellmouth Don't need anything else right
