That HWA pro-AI lady has an AI-powered "writing coach" app she just launched and lol btw I will be your writing coach for free with no AI! Here: Turn off Bsky, you creep closer to death every day so WORK ON YOUR BOOK NOW--the discourse will still be here in the morning. You're welcome! 🥰

What's interesting about this to me is that whenever I work with teens in like... Writer Cafe situations, they are writing the WILDEST and DARKEST most depressing stuff I have ever seen. Me to @lectio.bsky.social : Why is there so much cannibalism and genocide and mutilation from these yoofs

Hard to believe it's only two weeks until MERCUTIO comes out in Canada. A 13th century novel about the imagined origins of Shakespeare's Mercutio. This is the time to pre-order if you'd like it when it releases (PB, HC or ebook all on the same day in Canada) or request from your library. Thanks 💜

Mercutio

I am still utterly gobsmacked by companies who want to pass themselves off as author-centric thinking that being "AI"-friendly is a good thing. Even the *perception* of being "AI"-friendly is enough to make actual authors avoid your services like the plague.

Having ranted about school curriculum books, I’ve just seen my son’s summer reading list, and all I can say is “I was right”. A more depressing collection would be tricky to assemble. Are we actively trying to convey to kids the idea that reading is dismal and arduous?

Also get out of my setup, SHOO, no cats in the video (I ended up putting some tube goo onto a dinner plate and putting that in the living room and then when they both were like "OOH TREAT" I shut the door on them SORRY GUYS)

a black cat hastily exiting a setup of: a loveseat, a couple of posters, and a book mostly hidden by her back end. she is on the top edge of the loveseat.

It took THIRTEEN FUCKENING TAKES to get one (1) usable three-minute video and I am going to SET SOMETHING ON FIRE and maybe also GO ON A RAMPAGE oh my God Why do we as writers have to be PERCEIVED JUST PERCEIVE THE BOOK I WROTE THE BOOK FOR YOU TO PERCEIVE IT

I need to record one more video this morning and I do not really want to but then once it's done IT'S DONE and I will not have to do it again and I think this is how I get through a lot of things tbh "At least I'll never have to live this exact minute again" I tell myself

Time to buy a new book. If you don't know what to buy, try something that rhymes with THEM ANY, maybe by an author whose last name sort of looks like "novel".

Okay well sometimes the universe provides (I got like 3 hours of slepp last night, I feel like crap, my stomach hurts, my head hurts, my house is a mess, my eyeliner is crooked, but my hair... looks okay on Zoom? curly and nice?)

me, a tired-looking middle-aged brown woman with curly black hair, wearing a burgundy t-shirt. behind me is my messy office and both cats.

The hovershark pup wails whenever I put it down, or try to put it in my toolbag, like it *knows* it's been found by a soft touch. I swaddle it in my scarf and wedge the soft bundle under my arm, wincing as the pup inefficiently nurses on my palm on the climb down.

As a sky turbine repair tech, you're used to finding strange things caught in the mechanisms. Tiny dragonlet hoards stashed in gearboxes, or drifting spellweave wrapped around the blades like cotton candy. What do you carry down from the clouds with you today? #TinyTalesTuesday #WritingPrompt

Hee hee heeeeee all the bookplates for FROM THE LIBRARY OF JURGEN LEITNER are signed! Oh and some of them (because I found a random but appropriate handful of stickers) have... 👁️ (not a lot though because I only had so many eyeball stickers) cc @rustyquill.com

two stacks of signed bookplates on top of a laptop. the laptop is covered with stickers, the bottom-most of which reads GUTS! BONES! DEATH!a super close-up of part of a signature, and a very tiny eyeball sticker. the iris is orange and it has a couple of little red veins.

I have worked very diligently to get my bedroom Primevally Darke, An Cave Long Before Ye Discouerie Of Fyre And it has succeeded But it does mean that occasionally I wake up like "I cannot see shit in here so that better be a cat gnawing on the back of my knees and not a demon or whatever"
