I’m just a simple country soccer dad and don’t know much about these fancy ‘tactics’ but were I coach of the English National Team I would simply not employ a strategy that, when successfully executed, gives Lionel Messi repeated opportunities with the ball in the final third for 30+ minutes.

The issue I see here is whether VAR is consistently calling refs to review these potential simulations. Kind of like whether they consistently call to review basic non-yellow fouls from the other end of the field prior to a goal. Or if they’re unevenly called on teams.
