After every tribute I've read today, I hope Pac knew how loved, admired and respected he was. One of the greatest this country has ever produced and a damn good human. This is incomprehensible.

One of the first things I started watching when I got back into wrestling was early NXT, with Adrian Neville making that show matter every week. He'd been incredible for years already, and he only got better. Wrestling without Pac has a hole at its centre that I can't fully comprehend.

Both Tim Curry and Roger Moore talked (fondly) about their affairs with Miss Piggy in their autobiographies. Has there ever been a full accounting of her conquests? It feels like she'd give Beatty a run for his money.

I saw Muppet Treasure Island a few weeks ago in a cinema for the first time in 30 years. Tim Curry is the only actor who could try to out-silly the Muppets and look like he belonged with them. To think he was the nastiest bastard in Criminal Minds too. What a man.

More to the point, Anthropic and OpenAI and all the rest could wink out of existence tomorrow with no particular damage to any ML-based scientific research program, except perhaps that the end of the hype cycle would end an artificial incentive to put the word "AI" in grant applications

"ESPN personality Pat McAfee released an album of original music on Friday. Critics say if the album is played backwards, the listener could hear hidden demonic messages. More worrying still, if the album is played forward, the listener could hear original music by Pat McAfee.

Weekend Update with Norm McDonald

My mother just said the words "Badger badger badger" and I replied "Mushroom! Mushroom!" She looked at me blankly. Twenty years on the internet and there are people who have not heard the whole song.

This is a great read. I really liked the film as an experience but kept butting against choices that made Odysseus a more conventional hero (blinding of Polyphemus aside, which is blatantly just a dick move) - and, of course, getting increasingly mad about the "sea people" and "civilisation".

I wrote about the Nolan Odyssey for the LRB. I'll summarize some of my main points below, in case you don't feel like reading all that. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

Delighted to report that the first couple of eps of X-Men 97 S2 are just as fun as I'd hoped. A couple of unintentionally hilarious lines but, crucially, lots of Psylocke and punching the air for Jubilee.

Watching Serena play now is so strange. Better than she looked in her last Wimbledon match years ago, but that bit less accurate, that step slower, and more prone to getting furiously stuck in her own head than ever. She'd only just shaken off the rust when the fatigue set in.
