I dunno, maybe the Supreme Court majority could have the decency to bestir themselves to write an actual, you know, opinion, with their names on it, explaining their endorsement of using race and ethnicity as part of a national policy of harassing and intimidating non-white Americans.

BREAKING: By an apparent 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court halts an injunction that had prevented immigration agents from racially profiling Latinos in central California. Sotomayor, dissenting, says the decision is "unconscionably irreconcilable with our nation's constitutional guarantees."

Today brings in a further loosening of any leash on the machine that is the American carceral system. The dissenting opinion, written by Justice Sotomayor, is ringing an alarm bell for the American people that falls into din of klaxons of the last several months.

The impact of the Trump administration on academia will be felt for decades. Fascism asks the average citizen to value the words of its demagogues above any expertise, research, or evidence. The truth is not the truth beneath facism's boot.

A student told her professor “President Trump’s laws state that there are two genders,” and that the lesson was “illegal” for contradicting that. It’s not. Executive orders are not laws. Compliance with authoritarianism will not protect universities. Either we stand up for our missions or we fall.

I am surrounded by the strong, brave people who I wish with all my heart didn't have to be either of those things.

The conversations I've been having with fellow trans folks lately have been bleak, but also helpful. We're already finding ways to build community and support one another. I'm thankful for that in these years of darkness.

Forever pissed that I have to be Aware and Informed instead of reading science fiction and fantasy and writing stories. I'm a children's literature critic, not an expert on government! (Not a fan of this timeline. At all.)

Happy Black History Month, and yeah, we're still doing that.

Just when I thought I couldn't be filled with any more rage today. To be clear: when you classify a whole group of people as dishonorable and dishonest by their very existence, you are calling for violence against them.
