Tiny gripe: Got sent a 20 minute youtube video, a long appreciation of a comic series I drew: "Superior Foes of Spider-man." 51K views! The video is made of screenshots, mostly Nick's writing & my art, and not once in those 20 minutes is there any mention of who wrote or drew the comic. Wild.

Really blown away by how X-Men '97 constantly uses knowledge of comics continuity to help scaffold its stories and character arcs without being burdened or beholden to it. Like it is truly a masterclass in adaptation

ultimately the fallout of all this is that cartoonists who aren't necessarily trained in academic citation, history and historiography, and don't have a background in that, will be terrified to draw anything nonfiction. and that's not on the academics who feel slighted. that's on comic publishers
