I'm a professional philosopher. Something like half of the names on this list are philosophers, depending on how you draw your lines. These names don't make up half of the authors IN MY INTRO TO ETHICS CLASS. This list is garbage not because of what's there but because of what's not.
The UT-Austin Core Curriculum Task Force is requiring that Gen Ed courses draw 50% of their readings from this list of 50. Unfortunately, it seems to think that the “Great Questions of Human Life” can only be explored through the canon of Western civ (token exception: Confucius).
10yo asked what i did at the festival and i said oh it's a book festival, so i just talked about my books, and he said "yikes" under his breath
Good morning to everyone except whoever is using a leaf blower at 8 am on Sunday morning
One of the best ways to find new people to follow is exploring a relevant hashtag. For folks interested in the #neuroscienceoflanguage definitely check out #SNL2026
If I find just the RIGHT weekly planner maybe my life will be manageable?

On my way to a job interview, smartly leaving the iced coffee at home
“I remember with a fondness a time when I didn’t have to do this thing”
phrases I have said aloud, to myself, which can apply to contexts of academic administration and/or my physical therapy exercises "well, this is tedious" "I don't want to do these, but I'm going to do them now" "if this process is effective I will eat my hat"
being an adult would be so much easier if I didn't have to do it EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
Tough guy who only uses Bonferroni corrections because they’re so dang conservative
Guy who thinks chi-square fit tests are liberatory because they want all parameters to be free

A short time later 11yo: “what do you call a fish with no eyes????? . . . A FSH!!!”
11yo: “dad, what’s the difference between a tuna, a piano, and a bottle of glue” Me: “I’ve heard this one! You can tuna piano but you can’t piano a tuna… but wait, what about the bottle of glue?” 11yo: “yeah, people get stuck on that part”

If you bring a Markov blanket to your job interview you’re not getting the job 🤷♂️
After a long day at the aquarium, the otters help tidy their toys away. Payment is made promptly and entirely in ice cubes.
Whatever you do, don't smoke an entire brisket at a job interview, it's a lot of equipment to bring in, it takes a really long time to do it right and those conference rooms have notoriously poor ventilation
For all of my job interviews I bring a vial containing the tears of my enemies which I drink slowly from a chalice while staring, unblinking, across the table. I dunno maybe I’m just old fashioned
I live in an Idaho-adjacent state and am now following this story with interest. It would be very funny if Bsky could help get a non-Republican elected to the Senate from Idaho.
ok, i kind of think Todd Achilles is the real deal candidate-wise. i gave him some money. i'm going to sit down and do some math and try to figure out if this is legitimately a no-hoper or if this is a longshot-big-payoff bet, but if there's a chance we may do some cooking for him on Bsky
