Fungi can be found everywhere. People can get fungal diseases from contact with an infected animal, skin scrapes that are exposed to fungi in dirt or plants, and from breathing fungal spores in the air. 📸 Microscopy: D. Thomson, D. Corzo Leon, A. Hudson, T. Bedekovic, M. M. Guillan

We are deeply saddened to share that Dr. George H. McCracken, one of the founding architects of the field of pediatric infectious diseases, passed away July 3 at the age of 89. Dr. McCracken was a founding PIDS member and served on the BOD twice. He was an icon, a mentor and friend.

Happy #FungalFriday everyone. We are exploring the Bluesky landscape and keen to engage with other #mycosky people and organisations. We'll be posting interesting images and research in #medicalmycology. This pic shows fungal hyphae and yeasts with cell wall, immune antigen, and organelle dyes.

Calling #African #Mycologists! This #microscopy training course is designed with you in mind. Please spread the word to your #fungal focused colleagues!
