The July G3 cover shows an artistic representation of image pixels encoded as spatial transcriptomic data. A computational tool, Syrah, processes familiar images as a visual metaphor to illustrate its effects of properly assigning sequencing reads to their corresponding locations. 1/2🧵
Hey! I’m Meghan, a lifelong artist; painter and drawer. The deep ocean has my heart and I adore painting unusual critters you don’t usually hear about ❤️ I’m contracted for writing and illustrating a deep ocean children’s book releasing in 2026. I also use deep ocean images in my personal work.
Each morning I'm like oh shit I need to remind people to buy Love Bugs valentines (cute art! facts about insects! & how you can help that insect!). But that means I am only reminding the morning crowd repeatedly & never the late night goblin crowd. OH WELL. Buy valentines: squidfacts.bigcartel.com
Anyone else experiencing some serious art block? I'm itching to escape into my sketchbook, but every time I get a chance to, I struggle 😵💫 everything feels so forced!!
For all the folks out here who can't believe what's happening is happening so fast, with so much acquiescence...don't be so naive. This is America. Many of us who have been trying to fight for a democracy that just recognized us since the 1960's tried to tell you this ish was fragile.
It was such a pleasure to host you both at our #CellBio2024 #SciArt Show & Reception! Thank you for making this event so special, and for bringing your creativity and enthusiasm to our community 😍
Turning #science into art, one masterpiece at a time! 🎨🔬 Check out some incredible #sciart from last night's Science Art show at #CellBio2024 featuring the work of Institute members @snowotarski.bsky.social and Mol Mir! @beatascienceart.bsky.social
After our #SciArt subgroup at #CellBio2024, join us for a very special Science Art Show & Reception, where you'll get to interact with our amazing speakers and other pioneers in this field. We are honored to feature over 30 scientists/artists in the exhibition! RSVP: beatascienceart.com/artshow2024/

Every year I participate in #ArtAdventCalendar. It’s a great way to fill your feeds with art at the end of the year. All are welcome & it’s definitely not just for people who celebrate Christmas. Join in! It can be a bit of an antidote to all the commercialism of the season cause it’s just about 🐡🧵
It's about that time of year- time to remind you all you can get your FREE christmas grub STL for 3D printing from either my MyMiniFactory or Cults3D pages. Enjoy and if you print one, I'd love to see pics! 🐡
Many bivalves can see! Scallops have hundreds of eyes, which they can even use to resolve simple shapes, to help them navigate while swimming. Giant clams and some other cockles have them too. Juvenile oysters have an eyespot for navigating in the larval phase #clamFacts 🧪
If you love science-based art, check out the 2025 Guild of Natural Science Illustrators juried art exhibit-I was honored to have 2 pieces accepted. www.gnsi.org/2024-gnsi-ju... #SciArt #art

That was our last slug of the evening (we had lost the light and didn't want to lose skin off our knees as it got harder to navigate). Here's a roundup of the evening's sea stars -- plenty of ochre stars in purple and orange, a bat star, and hundreds of little six-armed stars!
Shamelessly taking advantage of the bluesky migration to share again some of my favorite echinoderm pics 😀🤩 🔽 Acetylated tubulin (nerves and cilia) and phalloidin (muscles) stains in a juvenile sea urchin (Paracentrotus lividus) just after metamorphosis ⭐
And of course the cool and soothing #invertedLUTs with my new favorite combo: inverted grey + white. and a last reminder, for social media sharing of cool microscopy, it's fine and good to use gamma correction to adjust the contrast without saturation!
Let's start a little game. Highlight 3 artists, one by one, that you think deserve more followers than you have. @ehrenenglish.bsky.social likes similarly weird animals that I do, so I intimately know how hard it is to make them look right and aesthetically appealing. They're slaying at both.
Colours wouldn't be as bright with inks on paper, but they might work okay!
The big migration is finally happening! I'm going to start doing some #throwbackthursday for my new followers. Here is a mushroom-filled illustration I made back in 2022 - check out my blog for process sketches and much more: matteofarinella.wordpress.com/2022/11/06/m... #mycology #fungi #sciart 🍄
