The July G3 cover shows an artistic representation of image pixels encoded as spatial transcriptomic data. A computational tool, Syrah, processes familiar images as a visual metaphor to illustrate its effects of properly assigning sequencing reads to their corresponding locations. 1/2🧵

Anyone else experiencing some serious art block? I'm itching to escape into my sketchbook, but every time I get a chance to, I struggle 😵‍💫 everything feels so forced!!

For all the folks out here who can't believe what's happening is happening so fast, with so much acquiescence...don't be so naive. This is America. Many of us who have been trying to fight for a democracy that just recognized us since the 1960's tried to tell you this ish was fragile.

Many bivalves can see! Scallops have hundreds of eyes, which they can even use to resolve simple shapes, to help them navigate while swimming. Giant clams and some other cockles have them too. Juvenile oysters have an eyespot for navigating in the larval phase #clamFacts 🧪

That was our last slug of the evening (we had lost the light and didn't want to lose skin off our knees as it got harder to navigate). Here's a roundup of the evening's sea stars -- plenty of ochre stars in purple and orange, a bat star, and hundreds of little six-armed stars!
