Comedy ages incredibly badly. I mean which 40+ year old comedy movies hold up? I can only think of a handful: Annie Hall. Some Like It Hot. Dr. Strangelove. Young Frankenstein. That’s about it. I like Philadelphia Story & It Happened One Night, but I doubt anyone under age 40 could tolerate these.

It seems both fitting and upsetting that no music theatre composers (who practically invented the Great American Songbook) are nowhere to be seen here. You could make a case for Alan Menken or Robert Lopez for sure (and maybe Miranda or Yazbek).

The new Harry Potter series looks polished, earnest, and overwhelmingly unneeded. I wish the children in it an easy and early escape and every adult involved a reckoning with the choice they made.

There are so many wonderful, fantastical stories that transport you, that don't give money to a bigoted, foul TERF who is actively making the world worse.
