Last week I was lucky enough to visit Ukraine to create a documentary highlighting the impact of the conflict on the Ukrainian people, internally displaced people and veterans. It was incredibly humbling to speak to so many people and hear their stories.

It’s not a choice between good palliative care and assisted dying. It’s not a dismissal of concerns over coercion. You can vote for it now and work to make it better. It’s about understanding that we can’t give everyone a good death and we should. It’s about empowerment.

If done correctly, reimagining the UK-EU relationship offers huge potential for mutual gain. A veterinary agreement, a youth mobility scheme and closer security cooperation are all areas ripe for kicking off a much closer UK-EU relationship in future. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

Ex-chief EU negotiator calls for young Britons to be able to live and work in Europe

Keir Starmer has so far ruled out agreeing such a scheme, which would let under-30s live, study and work across the bloc

The latest poll results of the German Politbarometer by ZDF offer a mostly encouraging picture! Compared to the October survey, 70% of Germans surveyed are in favour of continuing to supply #Ukraine with weapons (+5%), with 43% of them even agreeing that military aid should be increased! 1/4

We should welcome this. BUT We can’t change our approach to standard divergence like an election yo-yo issue every 4 years. We need a long term inquiry into what our future relationship with Europe looks like free from ideology and party politics w customs union and market access on the table.

While much of this will be reaching the end its life cycle it is hard to understand how the UK can justify the MOD cuts at a time of heightened security threats. It puts more doubt on Europe’s ability to fill the defence spending gap left in the wake of a Trump US. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

£500m defence cuts as ships, drones and helicopters scrapped

Critics said the move would leave UK defence weaker, at a time of growing international tensions and after over a decade of funding pressures on the armed forces.

Just finished listening to the podcast that goes alongside this piece by @centreeuropeanref.bsky.social. Really interesting insight to how ~200,000 swing voters in swing states can have such an influence on European security policy. Podcast available from CEF website via Soundcloud.

Many described Trump’s first presidency as a wake-up call for Europe. But by and large, Europeans ignored that call. 🇺🇸 🇪🇺 New @centreeuropeanref.bsky.social insight Read here: https://buff.ly/3UJsKiO

Residents in #Didsbury have contacted me and Cllr John Leech asking us to urge Post Office Ltd to reconsider the decision to shortlist the Didsbury Village Post Office for closure. For many, it is not just a place to post parcels or buy stamps; it is a lifeline.

This is a really important point by @mariecgoldman.bsky.social but further to this #dementia training is something all public facing workers should be doing. It will make people better at their jobs, raise awareness and most importantly keep things as normal for as long as possible #alzheimers

Marie Goldman MP@mariecgoldman.bsky.social · 2y ago

Recently, I spoke to Alzheimer's Society about the importance of mandatory dementia training for our social care workforce. In Chelmsford, over 58% of dementia cases remain undiagnosed, according to #NHS. We urgently need better awareness and support, both for dementia patients and care workers.

European security is the biggest foreign policy challenge in Starmer's premiership. For some of UK's closest allies the threat of war is very real. It's why improving UK-EU relations and the anticipated "reset" is needed more than ever and why #Brexit was a mistake. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Sweden, Finland and Norway release new advice on surviving war

Sweden said the new advice follows a worsening security situation, by which it means the war in Ukraine.
