Had a fantastic time at @localfirstconf.com. Started off relatively stark with discussions acknowledging the general political instability of our times and how much data sovereignty matters. Ended with an absolutely wild demo of @inkandswitch.com's patchwork project. Lots of good bits in between.

2026 @localfirstconf.com is truly one of the few places that unite disparate communities—open source, LLMs, p2p, interface design, standards—behind a shared value: user agency and empowerment. How refreshing to witness the openness and curiosity everyone brings to the discussion.

It feels like nearly every dev talking about AI is either: a maximalist – Font of hype and boosterism. Manic energy on building. Signs of AI psychosis. a skeptic – Depressed by the torrent of slop and disappearance of craft. Waiting for the industry to implode when token prices skyrocket.

my view on llm text: great for compression horrible for expansion, e.g. i use it to convert 5000 char data into 300 char data but not vice versa, at least prose. code is another story
