It's good to see Birmingham City Council ramping up its adoption of 20mph as the urban/village norm for its roads.

If you build it they will come Rotterdam, NL The Netherlands is not known for his amazing weather. Yet it’s a biker’s paradise. This is because of infrastructure decisions made over the last 50 years, and a culture of biking that followed. It’s as simple as that.
Great progress but sadly London's safe cycle network stops well short of Sunny Havering. The London Mayor is funding this but the rollout in each borough is controlled locally so we need to keep pushing our local councils for progress. Help us. Join us. www.haveringcyclists.org/join-us/
While Europe goes through yet another heatwave, cities are developing plans to fight the heat, yet cycling is often not part of it. What could London's Heat Ready plan look like if it included cycling? Read more: urbancyclinginstitute.substack.com/p/a-key-poli...
Zero km in #Havering, and the A12 and A127 which the Mayor controls are poorly served and hard to cross for people walking, wheeling and cycling. Safe streets in #London is a postcode lottery.
Spot the difference. We didn't 5x the Cycleways network in London overnight. It took vision, hard work, & the conviction to invest in green infrastructure - often in the face of vocal opposition. In 2016, we had 90km of Cycleways. Now we're at 450km. That's progress. And we're not stopping there.
Infrastructure creates demand. People don't cycle because a city is naturally "a bike city." They cycle when routes are safe, continuous, connected. Major credit to the Mayor @london.gov.uk, Transport for London, local councils, advocacy who continue to push this vision. Bravo! 👏
We have our next Havering Cyclists meeting on Saturday 15th August. The meeting will be held in the cafe in the visitor’s centre in Hornchurch Country park. If you would like to come along, please get in touch for more details.

It seems that 84% of Britons can't tell whether an e-bike is legal or not and this inevitably leads to problems like the West Midlands police destroying a man's (legal) Tern e-bike. There is now an initiative called E-Bike Positive which is a 'trust mark for e-bikes. ebikepositive.co.uk

“Helsinki hasn’t registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past year…Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a car’s speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinki’s residential areas and city center in 2021.”
Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death

You don't have to pave over paradise to build a bike path. Bicycles can coexist with nature in a way that cars simply never will.
The further a journey is, the more barriers Disabled people will usually face to completing it. Moving about in our own homes is usually much easier than making a longer trip around our own communities. Her are some of the barriers many Disabled people experience. What barriers do you face?
