In a seven-country experiment, voters repeatedly chose between candidates, some of whom endorsed an undemocratic measure. Swedes punished hardest in Europe (~10pp of support withdrawn). But Sweden Democrat voters withdrew 5pp - identical to right-populist voters in Poland.
RIP SBE. One point of confusion maybe someone can clarify? SBE is not listed as one of the directorates for the GRFP, but e.g. psychology is still an eligible major field of study per the appendix here www.nsf.gov/funding/oppo.... so where's that $ come from?

Yes. The GSS, ANES, and PSID were all funded by SBE. GSS 2026 is in the field now, but GSS 2028 is currently unfunded, and my understanding is that NSF will not be funding it. We’re looking at alternatives, perhaps for a scaled down version so we can keep the 56+ year series going.
Does walking a mile in someone else's shoes do any good if you just can't get them to fit? Rapp et al. find perspective-taking has disparate effects on reducing discrimination. Hardened beliefs & personal associations may be the key to how well the shoe fits & if one wears it. More: buff.ly/LbyyNBr
Finally, this has gone a bit under the radar, so I want to highlight it: The social, behavioral and economic sciences directorate (SBE) has simply ceased to deliver grants to many of its subareas. Any topic not specifically OK'd by the Trump administration is receiving zero new awards.
Immigrant groups are no monolith, nor are their responses to discrimination. Suntay & Ruhe study these responses for Turkish immigrants in Germany. They find in facing discrimination, more education strengthened religious identification & the opposite for less education. Read more: buff.ly/LEzsBXY
