1/ Happy to share our paper 'Still Instrumentally Inclusive' w/ @turnbulldugarte.com in @apsrjournal.bsky.social. Understanding homonationalism remains important. Recent events (Berlin) have shown how quickly LGBT+ rights can become instrumentalized in debates about immigration and Islam.

A part of the country's doom spiral is that before we get a chance to breathe, critical opinions (that is, not actual evidenced scepticism) is given equal airtime for any and all policy.

Looking forward to this! It also means I'm stepping down from @poqjournal.bsky.social and (in January) @jeppjournal.bsky.social . I learned a lot and I'll miss working with them. Thanks to @olliheath.bsky.social and @profrosiecamp.bsky.social for entrusting me with it!

Sincere thanks to @migcitizenapsa.bsky.social for its 2026 Emerging Scholar award! Widening and deepening the reach of political science motivates a lot of what I do, so it’s gratifying to know others recognize that goal, too. Congrats to the other recipients: apsanet.org/membership/o... #polisky

Aside from the personal sympathy and anger on behalf of the staff, I also still feel complete bafflement that the government is letting the sector fall apart. Direct job cuts lead to indirect cuts on other staff at universities, in the area, and suppliers.

Many are following this. Those at risk here on Exeter's Cornwall campus include myself and colleagues in Geography, Environmental Science, Marine Science, Renewable Energy, and Environmental Maths, Humanities, and 1/2 the Environment and Sustainability Institute. I really hope this can be resolved.
