It’s time we sorted out the press. Constant misinformation to protect their donors and fossil fuels is destroying lives and our planet. The Government must step up and stop being cowardly.

Sorry Zack Polanski this long hot summer is not the apocalypse - it's like a gloriously long holiday in France
..with village green cricket thrown in good measure

A little bit of green can make a big change. Observe the contrast on the same street. The asphalt road registered 33 degrees Celsius, while the newly installed semi-hardened parking lots showed a considerably lower temperature of 21 degrees Celsius. 📸 Gina Kranendonk, Rotterdam 🇳🇱

Nope, it’s the weeks of hot, dry weather made more severe by global heating due to fossil fuel burning that has increased the risk of wildfires. The landscape is so dry that any ignition can start a fire that becomes uncontrollable. Fields of crops and grasses are not “rewilded” but have burned

Front page of the Daily Mail newspaper “eclipse special” with headline “Rewilding link to record fires”, beneath a photograph of people watching the near-total eclipse of the sun with the title “Britain finally gets a break from the sun (for a few minutes!)”

From Wivenhoe to Wiveton, moth trapping in north Norfolk a couple of nights ago. Sadly, turned chilly so very low numbers, and nothing unexpected. But here are Six-striped Rustic, Swallow Prominent, Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing and Burnished Brass.

Spotty-eyed Hoverfly Eristalinus aeneus came to visit our flat in Wivenhoe, Essex. Top floor, about 15m up, and part of a pattern of high-flying strongly coastal specialist insects here, including the sand wasp Gorytes laticinctus and Saltmarsh Horsefly Atylotus latistriatus in recent summers.

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026... There are some stupid, radicalised idiots in Dover, just as there are in Clacton, whose bigotry and prejudice overrides the truth multiple times over. When education is vilified, this is the underclass that is created.

On the ground in the English seaside town rightwing influencers say is being ‘invaded’

Some in Dover say their town is being exploited by content creators and politicians, but others claim there is a genuine problem

Interesting day with Alison Findlay, RHS outreach, in the new Colchester General Hospital drought-tolerant garden, looking at the wildlife. Plenty to see on this relatively newly planted site including Syritta pipiens, Cinnamon Bug, Carnation Tortrix (adult and pupal skin)and Sage Leafhopper.
