We had a productive walk through both wet and dry habitats, highlights included Oblong-leaved Sundew, Bog Asphodel and Cranberry.
9/ English Pastoral by @herdyshepherd.bsky.social Such a profound book on ecology & our connection with nature from the unique perspective of modern farming. Clarkson's Farm this is not. The writing is sublime. I recommend this to everyone I know working & volunteering in ecology.
Apols to those looking forward to it, but this year's #NNNS 'Introduction to Wildflowers' being held at Roydon Common 1030-1330 tomorrow is unfortunately going to be led by me rather than Bob L, who just let me know that he's indisposed. On the plus side, the amazing Richard Carter will be there :)

Thanks so much for your support. This really is a wonderful site - a chalk spring, a neutral spring and an acidic spring from the Greensand meet in the central marsh - I can't think of a site of this size with such diversity, and the plants and invertebrates to prove ti.

May I remind everyone that there is currently NO cure for rabies. May I also remind everyone there is absolutely NO scientific proof connecting ANY vaccine that we produce today with autism. This is true regarding vaccination in both humans AND in dogs. Vaccinate your pets please.

On holiday in Tuscany and Erigeron bonariensis is abundant on the road verges, they have wine glass shaped inflorescences (very fitting for the region) and purple tipped phyllaries. #wildflowerhour
Autumn squill, Scilla/Prospero autumnalis from St Helen’s Duver, IOW for #wildflowehour. This season’s favourite as it’s a lovely plant, reminds me of a recently departed botany friend & I’ve wanted to visit this population for years.
Some York Groundsel Senecio eboracensis plants appear to have weathered the drought above ground, & are now in full flower. Good plants currently opposite York Station, convenient for the travelling botanist #wildflowerhour A #FavouritePlant of mine, having been involved in its de-extinction

Dr Astrid Biddle@astridbiddle.bsky.social · 2w agoBranched Bur-reed brainteaser in Shropshire The broad, rounded fruits identify Sparganium erectum subsp. oocarpum, now treated as S. × oocarpum, a hybrid between S. erectum and S. neglectum. Partly sterile fruit heads provide a useful clue.
