but that’s fine. It served a useful function at the time in getting people to think about potential informational value in P-values - it just was too crude an approach, so stimulated development of other methods. Can we have a “z-curve for dummies” explainer to improve take-up?

R.I.P p-curve. Even the authors of p-curve no longer believe in the method. replicationindex.com/2025/08/09/d...

Interesting trial. Especially interesting to note that the SMD between the AI chatbot and waitlist is equivalent to the SMD between face-to-face psychotherapy and waitlist. If psychotherapy is «remarkably effective», then so is the AI chatbot.

AI chatbot somewhat more effective than waitlist control. An effect of d=0,61 is something you would expect from a self-guided intervention, but I suspect it’s much more expensive.

🚨This week, many Columbia scientists lost grants that funded over half their annual income. Others will no longer be able to do research that helps treat thousands of sick patients across the US. "It hurts," they told me. My story for @nature.com 🧪 www.nature.com/articles/d41...

No need to say that the ICN is a pioneering institution. I had the privilege to start my academic career there during my first doctorate in London. Incredible to see the development of so many academic peers who are now qualified to start their own group at the ICN - good luck to anyone who applies!

Yes!!! The review I've been looking for! Rapid-acting antidepressants like ketamine, electroconvulsive therapy, and noninvasive stimulation (TMS) are thought to work by enhancing plasticity, but how, exactly? Grateful to @alexkwan.bsky.social and team for summarizing the evidence in this review.

Alex Kwan@alexkwan.bsky.social · 2y ago

There are many nuances regarding the structural neural plasticity associated with antidepressant drugs. 💊🧠 We share our thoughts here in a Nature Reviews Neuroscience article, led by Clara Liao with co-authors from Conor Liston’s lab at Weill Cornell. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
