When I say Shigeru Mizuki is the second most influential manga artists after Tezuka, I am not talking specifically about his influence on manga. That is too limiting. I am talking about his broader influence on Japanese culture at large. He shaped overall Japanese culture in a way few others have.

80s Japanese game art clearly influenced by Moebius, Druillet, Corben, etc. slaps so hard. This is one of my favorite illustrations ever.
I just wish the end wasn’t so anti-climactic. I feel like the lack of a satisfying payoff made this such a tragic film endeavor as I really enjoyed the rest of it. I do wonder what notes were given or if there was any interference that dictated alternate choices for it.
