hands down my all-time favorite galadriel shot. she looks beautiful and terrifying and UTTERLY otherworldly here, and i don't think i've ever seen any actor capture "staring into your soul" quite like... this. the absolute legend that you are, cate blanchett, ugh
Had a lil fun today - May we never see Nolan’s take on Idril, but I think if he made that movie this is what the poster would be like. Just Eöl being thrown off of the walls of Gondolin.
“The Calm Before The Storm” depicts Angrod and Aegnor, brothers to Galadriel and Finrod Felagund, right before the rebellion. The Noldorin princes stand on a terrace in Tirion and look to the East, starting to feel the sparkles of desire and curiosity about Beleriand slowly turn into a fire. 1/2
Elenwë, mother of Idril and wife to Turgon, perished while crossing the Ice, falling into a chasm of freezing cold - and Turgon was able to rescue only his daughter. Seconds after their great loss, father and daughter grieve together, while their friend Finrod shares their sorrow.
After depicting the sorrowful separation of Findis and Írimë, the feud between Galadriel and Fëanor, and mourning of Finwë by Míriel; I wanted to continue this series with something uplifting. How did the Noldo Prince Finarfin and Teleri’s precious swan-maiden Eärwen first meet, I wondered. 1/3

Míriel Þerindë, whose name alone led to a sociocultural friction, is such an original character. Her refusal to return to her body and thus life, despite the great love she has for her husband, in order never to give birth again and forever in solitude focus on her artistry has always impressed me +
Dís is the only female Dwarf Tolkien refers to by her name. The Lady of Erebor was the daughter of King Thráin II, sister to Thorin Oakenshield, and mother to Fíli and Kíli… + 1/2

Like the rest of Ulmo’s Maiar, his hair is of the ocean hues but unlike them, his color scheme is more of pearls, moss and rocks; reflecting elegance and craftsmanship. 1/2

This wild, violent and mischievous soul, who liked crafting perils at the sea like an artist, served Ulmo in the oceans, but preferred coasts and played important roles in multiple events. + 1/2

In my depiction, I wanted to avoid (though inevitably fallen back sometimes) regular Poseidon figures as Tolkien depicts Ulmo as a respectable & terrible king when he wears a skin - not necessarily a man of very old age with white beard each time 1/4
The feud between Galadriel and her uncle Fëanor has been one of the most interesting aspects of Tolkien’s legendarium to me. Driven by a similar kind of light and shadow, they are the “greatest of Noldor”; who beats the other being hinted by their fates which is impacted by their levels of wisdom +
For the House of Finwë series, after a few near-finished trials, I decided to make stained-glass simple profiles that depict moments between at least 2 members It kicks off with Finwë’s two daughters bidding farewell to each other as the eldest, Findis, stays and Írimë departs for Middle-earth 1/2

Tilion, as well as Arien, is the closest thing to the mythical tales my grandmother would tell me. A rogue courier of the Moon, that burns himself for wanting to get too close to the Sun. Before taking on such task, he was a Maia of Oromë, 1/2
Arien left everything she loved to attend to, all the flowers of Vána’s gardens and stillness of Valinor, and guided the Sun in the skies for ages: she is a legend to be written on her own. A fire spirit who refused the flames of Melkor’s temptation and instead used her own to illuminate the world.
20 min adventure, Pallando! In and out! *disappears forever*
Pallando, Rómestámo, Haimenar, East-Helper… Contrasting Alatar who got him involved in an adventure (20 mins in and out!) I imagine this Blue Wizard, depicted in the form prior to becoming an Istar here, more diplomatic and scholarly than his (head-canon) earnest but also no-chill peer.
Alatar, Morihentar, Palacendo, Darkness Slayer, Blue Wizard. Hard to say if they’re the same Maia but also isn’t wild to assume so. Oromë’s friend is the only Istar who had a request which was company. He headed East, never to return. I prefer the version where Alatar did slay some darkness, 1/2
Gothmog was the King of Balrogs - fire “spirits” who took Melkor’s side at the very beginning. I wanted to depict what would be a very short timeframe where he looks like a maia without Melkor’s stain on his existence, and my creative take is that he actually loved the icy landscapes… + 1/2
Ossë and Uinen’s partnership is giving “behind every successful woman there is a husband who halts her progress”

“Eönwë [is] the banner-bearer and herald of Manwë, whose might in arms is surpassed by none in Arda.” The leader of the host that saved the Middle-earth from Morgoth himself was not an easy task to depict but I stuck with Tolkien’s non-Silmarillion association of Eönwë with the hues of sapphire +
Ilmarë, the handmaiden of Varda Queen of Valar, was one of the chief Maiar: a guardian of stars. As they say, behind every successful woman there is herself, and behind her there is a supernatural divine being that can touch stars.
