People complain arthouse cinema is inaccessible. But say what you will about Bergman or Tarkovsky or Wong Kar-wai, they never told people to do tens of hours of homework. The Seventh Seal is about a knight in a spiritual battle with Death. That's the background. Simple.

From time to time, I will use an LLM for answer generation, but every time I will verify its results. I also presume that search will always be biased and inadequate, and I act accordingly. Do not surrender your humanity to tools that are architecturally and demonstrably unreliable narrators.

Finally, dug my own live example (from 12 June 2025) out of the screenshot pile. Unfortunately I didn't capture the question - it would've been something about when exactly was I supposed to cancel my TP status when switching over to a work permit.

screenshot of the doj bot replying to prompt not pictured: "**Temporary Protection and Work Permit** You do not meed to cancel your Temporary Protection if you have received a Work Permit. Temporary Protection in Ireland provides various entitlements, including the right to work. Therefore, you can hold both your Temporary Protection status and your Work Permit simultaneously without needing to cancel or re-register". Message concludes with a link to a "reference" page, but does not make it clear which section of the page is being referenced. The linked page does not support the information the bot provided.

I think it's also important to recognize that LLM "summaries" are not epistemically grounded in the ideas of the source material. When they're correct, it's more because *other* writing (in the training corpus) contains similar language. That makes it especially bad when applied to novel results.

"The Minister states that “the chatbot was tested extensively...checking responses to “55 questions out of which 53 were deemed successful" Wendy Lyon, an immigration & human rights solicitor at Abbey law, found that many of these 53 “successful” responses were wrong, unhelpful & misleading."

I fully endorse this. Political leaders are falling prey to AI hype, and seem to lack any kind of help from reputable sources who could counter the false claims of tech CEOs. Where are their science advisers???
