Do women candidates help the far right? Not in Britain, finds @turnbulldugarte.com in #EJPG. In 2024, Reform UK's women candidates won no more votes than men, and the gender gap in Reform support was, if anything, wider where it ran a woman.

I had the most lovely time during my 2 days in Uppsala 💕 Yesterday @grahn.bsky.social @rozemarijnvandijk.bsky.social & I had a very productive workshop for our book “Rainbow Wings”, which is the 1st to investigate LGBTQ+ party wings (you can read more about it here: www.michalgrahn.com/wings-book).
😯 Today we got exciting news! 🌈 Next month we kick off our 2026-2027 programme with @turnbulldugarte.com! He will present his quasi-experimental evidence on Islamophobic backlash in queer citizens after the Berlin Pride attack. 📆 Be sure to join us on October 8!
Do LGBTQ+ individuals take a nativist turn after Islamist violence? Does the general pop. increase support for the LGBTQ+ community? We, with @wurthmann.bsky.social & @grahn.bsky.social, answer these Qs with a pre-reg. RDiT around the Berlin attack which I'll present at the next QPW on Oct 8th.

Yesterday, I took part in @uu-polisci.bsky.social & @uumediacomms.bsky.social initiative “Statsvetare på stan” — Political Scientists in Town. This is our pre-election initiative to meet the people of Uppsala and answer questions they may have about the upcoming general election and democracy.

Excited to present work with @payoub.bsky.social at APSA in Boston. We study a real-world disinformation event in which a Swedish far-right organization abused the visual identity of Swedish LGBTQ+ civil-society organizations to make it appear as though they support the legalization of paedophilia.
After-summer kickoff yesterday with presentations of exciting new research projects from @grahn.bsky.social @ajars.bsky.social @shirinaoberg.bsky.social @marcusosterman.bsky.social, followed by guided tours of Uppsala with Carl von Linné and our department's very own progenitor: Johan Skytte!
Yesterday, I got to try my hand at live TV, talking about the growing gap in political attitudes between young men and women. We also discussed the dating reality show Silent Attraction, which centers on this divide and where I appear as an expert. :)
1/ Happy to share our paper 'Still Instrumentally Inclusive' w/ @turnbulldugarte.com in @apsrjournal.bsky.social. Understanding homonationalism remains important. Recent events (Berlin) have shown how quickly LGBT+ rights can become instrumentalized in debates about immigration and Islam.

"Opposition to gender equality has often been associated with far-right politics (...), overlooking the involvement of mainstream parties in reactionary gender politics." This is so true and makes this excellent article by @romainbiesemans.bsky.social & Archibald Gustin so important.
Three weeks ago, the inaugural @epssnet.bsky.social conference took place in Belfast. The enthusiasm, active participation and support from the community made this conference a huge success.
Happy to be at #EPSS2026 in Belfast today. I'm chairing panel PP03 — four papers on youth wings as recruitment grounds and early arenas where patterns of political representation take shape. Drop by if you're around! 🕞 15:20–17:00 · Meeting Room 3a (ICC).
