The Scottish Government announced last week that it was proceding with a Basic Artists Income scheme! Here are some notes I took from a roundtable about bringing the scheme over to Scotland, with some of the points that need to be addressed to make it a success.

Firstly, the Irish pilot saw 2000 artists (picked by lottery) receiving €325 (~£280) a week for three years. Artists reported better mental health and more time spent creating. For every €1 invested in artists, there was an estimated €1.39 generated. The scheme is now permanent and ongoing.
