Bridgy Fed now officially supports Mastodon quote posts! If you see a post bridged from the Atmosphere on the Fediverse, you can quote it using your Mastodon account. Small note: this will work for posts starting this week - older posts are not supported. Happy quoting!

New status update! Better response UI, real fediverse outboxes, profile update fixes, faster fediverse delivery, security and reliability improvements, and more…

Hi everyone! Welcome to another Bridgy Fed status update. Since last time, we’ve been focusing on a big new project that we’re almost ready to start beta testing, but we also managed to ship some smaller features and improvements: * From the Atmosphere: * Support posts with link embed but no text * Improve account deactivation/delete handling * Fix missed profile updates when you make more than one in a row * To the Atmosphere: link previews for bsky.app links * From the fediverse: handle pinned posts in paged collections * To the fediverse: * Serve real outboxes again * Speed up delivery for accounts with many followers * Preserve line breaks in profile bios * From the web: ask for confirmation before bridging * DM notifications: * Notify you of responses to replies you send from the web UI * Show original posts from Atmosphere users who are only visible to logged in users * Internal: * Security: more hardening against SSRF, XSS, and CSRF attacks * Add a load balancer * Faster `listRepos` * Real `collections` in `describeRepo` * Improve firehose reliability * Switch “Bluesky” to “Atmosphere” in docs, UI, etc As usual, feel free to ping us with feedback, questions, and bug reports, and please support us on Patreon! You can follow the _now_ label on GitHub to see what we’re currently focusing on. See you on the bridge!

“We believe the heart of social networks are people — not platforms or protocols.” This is @quillmatiq.com from @anew.social, the non-profit behind Bounce. Bounce makes it easy for users to shift between the two biggest open social web protocols: AT Protocol and ActivityPub.

Finally, Bounce (@anew.social) builds crucial infrastructure — making it easy for users to shift between the two biggest open social web protocols, ActivityPub (which powers Mastodon) and AT Protocol (which powers Bluesky.)

Pink background with blue dandelion seeds graphic and "Open Social Awards" text. Pink banner reads "Honorable Mention." Shows black gear icon logo, "Bounce | Seattle & San Francisco, USA" and description "Lets you migrate your network between ActivityPub and AT Protocol: you can leave any platform without losing your community."

And congratulations to the honorable mentions: * Bounce * Dandelion * Streamplace * Leaflet * Bonfire Network at today's Open Social Award.

Today, we're announcing THREE migration-focused updates! We now support every kind of migration on all the networks Bridgy Fed supports (including web!): into Bridgy Fed, out of it, through it, and around it, all while keeping you connected with your people. Let's dive in... 1/🧵

Launches: Credible Exit, Bridged User Notifications, & Fediverse Re-Bridge

Just launched at Public Spaces in Amsterdam, The European Social Stack Open Declaration! A set of common principles agreed by complementary technology leaders 🫶 Read the declaration, add your signature, and share: european.social #EUSocialStack #Europe

A screenshot of text which reads: An open declaration, The European Social Stack. Open Social Platforms and Private Messaging. Sign the declaration.

"Leading projects in our space are launching a declaration backing the European Social Stack on Friday at PublicSpaces, with Eurosky, Mastodon, the Social Web Foundation and A New Social among the founding signatories" 👀 👀 👀

"The end result of all of this is that we grew from 2k users to almost 150k, added a ton of heavy new functionality, and still managed to optimize and cut down costs from $.15 per active user per month to just $.03 or so." - @snarfed.org breaks down all the work he's done to optimize Bridgy Fed 1/

Over the last few months, instead of adding new features to Bridgy Fed or Bounce, I’ve been focusing on cost cutting. It’s not fun, exactly. I’d rather be building new things! But we’re a non-profit, ...

Wrote up some thoughts on new *atmospheric generatives* Things that can generate value even in environments where everything can be copied, like: contextualization • fluidity • aggregation • relationality Riffing on a @kevinkelly.bsky.social piece from years ago; extending for the atmosphere!

On atmospheric generatives…

How can we build moats on an open network? How can we make money when all the data's free? Here, I sketch some ideas for new generatives — contextualization, fluidity, aggregation, and relationality — for value creation in the atmosphere.
