When I worked for The Onion, practically everyone who visited the office would ask how they could submit headlines. This one stoner delivery guy was so persistent, we finally told him he could submit 10 headlines on spec and we'd take a look. First one on his list was "Shit and poop are Stinky!!!"

if i wrote for the onion i'd write a headline that was like "Breaking News: The president is an orange!" and then you'd click it and the article would be like "An orange-haired no-good crook, that is!" that might seem a little mean-spirited but the way i see it, i'd get a click and you'd get a laugh

“There’s a new Mr. Beast book.” You bolt awake in your workshop in Mainz. It’s 1450. You’re Johannes Gutenberg, and you’ve changed your mind. The future cannot come to pass. Your printing press must burn.

Hey, I've been working on this article for a while. It goes deep into the theology and history of the Catholic church, particularly how it's reacted to potential opportunities to actually change and the caveats it always puts on its progressive-seeming statements. Please consider reading it.

Underneath the "progressive" papacy of Pope Leo remains a deeply reactionary institution, one of the biggest enemies of trans rights worldwide. @sjklapecki.itch.io, who survived the Catholic Church's bigotry firsthand, goes in-depth on why it's time to see through the propaganda and face reality.

this is a big, powerful article. recommended for any trans folx who were raised catholic and still have memories and feelings about it really powerful, intense, long article was worth the time it took to ingest. 💜

"What practical difference is there between 'transgender people are mentally ill people who deserve our compassion as we force them to detransition and deny them the right to marry' and 'God hates fags'? Political policy is not the Eucharist: words do not change the fundamental substance." 🔥

I had the honor of editing this one. I first became familiar with SJ Klapecki's writing through the amazing union-fight-in-space novel Station Six. I found her threads on how deep the Catholic Church's transphobia goes really informative, so I was happy to work together on this in-depth look.

Klapecki draws from her extensive experience — as a trans Catholic who faced discrimination firsthand —to deliver a searing examination of the church's hostile theology on trans people, its long record of attacks on us and how buying into its "progressive" facade does real damage to our lives.

"When one considers that the church also teaches that there are exactly two gender identities permitted by God, that those gender identities have specific, narrow roles, when those gender identities are unchanging and immutable, that gender confirmation surgery is a violation of the dignity of humanity alongside abortion, murder, and sexual violence, that “sexual difference” is a gift from God and attempts to alter or downplay it is itself a threat to damage, and that all human beings have a moral dignity that they can destroy while maintaining the valuable ontological dignity gifted from God?

Beyond all the rhetoric, all the philosophy, all the theology, all the caveating, the position is simple: God loves everyone, even the faggots. He just cannot tolerate what you’re doing, and that gives the church the authority to oppress you however they wish.

There is no actual difference between this position and a Protestant Evangelical mewling that he “loves the sinners, hates the sins.” There is no wiggle-room, no exception. In fact, the church spills far more ink on finding all of the different loopholes or potential methods one could interpret their theology in an affirming light than they ever do saying that transgender people are deserving of respect. We’re not, after all. We’re deserving of pity, prayer, and the fervent belief we will correct our errors of existence.

This lack of flexibility is intentional, as the Catholic Church seeks to tightly control doctrine and respond to the modern world in the way that suits it best. Rogue priests who are affirming, who defy these expectations, can expect stern reproaches and potentially even excommunication. These statements of doctrine are not negotiable, nor are they up for interpretation.

While it is not strictly impossible that these things may change in the future, the consistent stance of the Catholic Church has been that transgender individuals are living in sin..."

Something very interesting about the Book of Revelations is that in its description of the Four Horsemen, it directly posits that Famine is not some monstrous disease that kills crops or drought or anything, but a merchant overcharging for life's necessities during crisis.

Revelations 6:5-6, New Catholic Bible version

5 When he broke open the third seal, I heard the third living creature shout, “Come!” I looked, and there was a black horse, and its rider was holding a pair of scales[d] in his hand. 6 Then I heard what sounded like a voice emanating from the midst of the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat costs a day’s wages, and three quarts of barley cost a day’s wages. But do not damage the olive oil or the wine.”
