'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

doing a spot of genealogical research and just found a generation where out of (at least) nine children, only one appears to have made it to adulthood, and i'm just thinking about trying to tell that poor woman how we have the means to prevent that today and yet many are turning away from it.

Moving expenses have, perhaps predictably, hit us harder than we were expecting. I won't get my first stipend payment until the end of Semptember, and my partner's disability checks aren't quite enough for us to get by until then. If you can help, we would appreciate it so much.

Hey! As many of you know I'm going to be starting a PhD in History at Brown this fall. I'm incredibly excited, but the hard part is going to be getting there. My partner and I are fundraising to make the move from MN to RI possible, and would be incredibly grateful for your help.

Yesss @neonhemlock.bsky.social met its initial funding goal for the novella series! Another 2k and you’ll get my novella. You want to feel really uncomfortable about roommate dynamics, right? You want to process your pre 2024 election feelings, right? Well: www.kickstarter.com/projects/dav...

I realized this summer I could buy a large package of tobiko/masago and then divide it into little jars, which means I can freeze them and pull out just enough for one meal. Gamechanger- it's fantastic with pasta or simple rice bowls when i have no energy to actually cook

A tiny little jar filled with orange fish eggs

Spokane is on fire. The state park went up in flames and went from 20 acres to 2,000 acres in a matter of an hour. If you are in Spokane and need a place to go because of the fire, my house is going to be open. People will be sleeping on the floor but it’ll be safe.

I put a call out for mural walls yesterday and I got a lot of VERY good walls for projects of a variety of scales. Unfortunately I have only sold enough shirts this summer to cover 2 of those walls. This means more people need to buy shirts. Thems the breaks. More shirts more art. SquidFacts.Net

a bunch of people in our shirts, including our biology is bigger than binaries shirt, adam whose poor head got cut off in his montage in our plant native plants shirt, a blonde dude in the shrimp shirt, and Jay in oue firefly squid shirt in the dark forest

ughhhhh online asynch courses are great for many situations, but their proliferation has led to a huge increase in students being like "expecting me to attend a lecture is preventing me from succeeding in this course", not understanding that the lecture (IRL or online) is, in fact, the course.
