Routine reminder that Bhattacharya is an economics researcher who has never practiced medicine and whose best known publication is overtly fraudulent. He has never done infectious disease research and has never treated a single virus or infection in his entire career. He’s likely never seen measles.

NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya defends measles on Fox News and condemns Gov. Shapiro for "playing this out over the airwaves for political purposes, just like what happened during covid. And this is why there's such deep distrust in public health."

Two posts back to back: 1. Even before Israel was globally understood to be a genocidal ultra-fascist ethno-supremacist country, it was enforcing that rain water is Israel's property, prohibit8ny Palestinians from building ways of collecting potable water. www.snopes.com/news/2023/11...

Palestinians Forbidden from Collecting Rainwater Because It's Deemed 'Israeli Property'?

Israeli authorities have heavily controlled water access in Palestinian territories for decades.

2. The fucking Washington Post here coming in with an article about low water quality in poor little Israel due to *checks notes* Israel destroying all of Gaza's water treatment and sewage in Gaza as part of their continued genocide but now 1% of Israeli houses can't shower that's news

This is a good example of old journalistic norms doing a disservice to the public under authoritarianism. “Critics have raised questions” is a formulation designed to preserve the outlet’s stance of objectivity. However this is not a matter of opinion. It is illegal and it should be stated bluntly

the other thing this take forgets is that we actually need to MINIMIZE the cultural relevance of harry potter. we need another shorthand for magical school books for kids, another first-title that comes to mind. read and support other books so harry potter can be replaced as the go-to.

Zoe Tunnell, from Comics@zoewithasword.bsky.social · 2d ago

Absolutely the hell not. It is so exhausting seeing these cis liberal folks with huge platforms go OH I LOVE TRANS RIGHTS SO HERE'S A WAY YOU CAN STILL CONSUME HARRY POTTER AND IT'S OKAY. It isn't. She isn't dead. She is actively harming lives, constantly. She is her work. They cannot be separated.

Peter Sagal @petersagal.bsky.soci... 3d I've said it before, and I've said it again: the Harry Potter books are terrific, especially when read aloud. They appeal to any child who is told they are special and great things are expected of them, and yet they have no idea how to live up to that.
I heard the author died. Not sure. Too
bad.

“We could do tremendous good for ourselves by just not trading with countries” — Trump’s bonkers view of trade is that you become wealthy by not engaging in commerce

It takes you 20 paragraphs to get to the part of the article where they admit that Mamdani isn't paying the influencers and the reason they are posting videos of the stuff Mamdani is doing is because people are interested in watching it.

The mayor’s office says that it does not pay the influencers. Still, their proximity and access to a figure as popular as Mr. Mamdani can help increase their own social media following and, by extension, potentially put them in a position to attract paid content sponsorships from commercial brands. Some influencers said that when they feature Mr. Mamdani, the videos get more likes and viewers watch longer.

"Mr. Mamdani is a master of new media... But as mayor, he has also been able to use taxpayer funds to create a sprawling network of hundreds of friendly influencers to boost his priorities, provide positive depictions of his administration and enhance his popularity."

My gosh. Fetterman pretended to be sick to avoid meeting three paralyzed veterans from rural PA…and then went to do a Fox interview on Israel. He agreed to meet a lawmaker who drove from PA to talk about homeless and working people…and then bailed & met pro-Israel Bruce Pearl.

One morning in June, three paralyzed military veterans in wheelchairs from rural Pennsylvania arrived at the office of Sen. John Fetterman for a long-awaited meeting to discuss legislation that would improve their care.
Fetterman's staff greeted them with bad news: The Pennsylvania Democrat had to cancel. He'd told his staff he may have eaten something bad and wasn't feeling well, according to people familiar with the matter.
Less than an hour after his staffers met with the veterans in his place, Fetterman walked into his office, showing no signs of illness. He had an appointment he didn't want to miss, he told staff: an interview on Fox News to discuss Israel and the war in Iran."He was available. He just chose not to meet with us," Williams said.
Even when Fetterman does agree to meetings, he often cancels, according to former staffers.
Also last April, Fetterman agreed to take a meeting with another state lawmaker, Liz Hanbidge, who drove down from Pennsylvania to introduce herself, and to discuss programs that help the homeless and working poor in her county. But when Hanbidge arrived, according to staffers who were present, Fetterman claimed he hadn't agreed to the meeting. The aides spent more than an hour pleading with him to talk to her; staffers eventually met with Hanbidge in his place.
Fetterman did take another meeting that day-with Bruce Pearl, the former college basketball coach and Israel advocate. The pair discussed legislation that would affect college sports, and Pearl thanked Fetterman for his stance on Israel, Pearl said in an interview.

Behind closed doors, John Fetterman dodges constituents, alienates fellow Democrats and shows little interest in the work of a senator.

The full text of Hasan Piker's statements, denounced by ppl from Hakeem Jeffries to Ben Shapiro. I am not sure the best way to respond to a moral panic, launched to stop progressive candidates & derail nec conversations re Israel's crimes, other than to call BS: there is nothing anti-Jewish here.

Wait a damn minute. The things Arday did, like the marathons, had been previously covered, with first hand primary sources, by English news orgs, contemporaneously?!?! And yet the Telegraph and others just kept repeating that he'd lied about them, despite tons of documentation they happened?! 🤬🤬🤬

I've never seen such an effort to censor a document as I have the Amnesty International report on gender critical groups because of JK Rowling. They removed the report from the Wayback Machine and now I got a DMCA strike on my Google Drive for having it. It was deleted and removed from my account.

A screenshot of an email viewed in dark mode with the subject line "Google DMCA Violation." The email from Google informs the recipient that they have received a notification under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) that some of their materials allegedly infringe on copyrights. It explains the removal process, mentions that notice details will be posted on Lumen, warns against repeated violations, and lists one affected Google Drive URL at the bottomA nearly identical mobile browser screenshot of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. It shows a search for the same Amnesty International UK resources URL, resulting in the same message: "This URL has been excluded from the Wayback Machine."A mobile browser screenshot of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. One thing I wish people would realize is just how central JK Rowling is to the entire anti-trans ecosystem. Looking at a network node analysis of the top 200 anti-trans X accounts, she is the most central figure spanning both sides of the Atlantic from Republicans to Labour.

A network graph visualization on a dark background showing connections between various accounts. The central, highly connected node is labeled "J.K. Rowling," with lines radiating out to many other nodes color-coded by region (UK, US, etc.). A detail panel on the right displays stats for her account, including her role as "Author & commentator," an in-degree of 153, an out-degree of 84, and 14 million followers.A scatter plot graph on a dark background comparing accounts based on "followers (log)" on the x-axis and "in-degree" on the y-axis. The data points are color-coded by region. J.K. Rowling is highlighted as a major outlier in the top right corner, possessing the highest number of followers and the highest in-degree. Other labeled points lower on the graph include various politicians, individuals, and campaign organizations.
