I feel like it might have been a bad idea to hand the world over to sociopaths
Somehow things that would have been a background gag in a Verhoeven movie are now just real

“Dad, since you’ve been alive a long time can you tell me…”
“We will go through every file.” This is the promise on which our nation should be rebuilt. No one slinking back to the shadows, no one quietly retiring. Accountability for all.

Who do we love? Librarians. Forever and always.
The Missouri AG threatened Daniel Boone Regional Library in Columbia with total defunding and investigations if they read books with LGBTQ+ themes to kids in a Pride story hour. They did so anyway. Our latest story from s. Baum of one library's defiance against an oppressive Republican regime.
Cleaning out some boxes & found an envelope of very old story ideas. After reading through, I tossed them all in the garbage. It felt freeing. Some ideas turn stale. As long as you stay interested in the world, you’ll find new ones. I don’t have faith in much, but I do have faith in that.
If you had invested $1,000 in SpaceX on June 30th you'd still have a cool $675 today

And in a few years, when we feel the effects of this loss of brain power, these people will say it was immigrants who cut off America’s nose to spite our face. Not them. Guaranteed.
The US built the greatest talent magnet ever, attracting the smart, skilled, and striving. They’d come to study, then stay and build things here, or leave with positive impressions and fruitful connections. Helped make the US wealthy and powerful. Then America chose to throw it away. And for what?

We're just doing fucking roadside executions now.
Our local newspaper, The Portland Press Herald, has lifted their paywall on coverage of the ICE shooting of a man in Biddeford, Maine this morning. They have excellent reporters and will have much more accurate information than natl news as we learn more: www.pressherald.com/2026/07/13/s...
ICE desperately wants you not to care about this story But we must. The killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national striving for his American Dream, is a moral outrage, and a warning. ICE hopes you won't notice that mass deportation is back My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/ice-...
ICE killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. They want you to be apathetic. Don’t be. | Will Bunch
Salgado came from Mexico, built the American Dream, sent his sons to college, and was senselessly killed by ICE.

This dirty racist makes me sick. This imagery tells people to target their local Chinese restaurants. Miserable hatemongering bigot.
Marsha Blackburn's new ad is so racist that it makes me wonder if mainstream Republicans could have gotten away with something like this back in the 1980s or 90s.
They should’ve learned from that game where he watched the Knicks and they lost. This dude has the jinx stink all over him.
“It was cosmic payback for a club that hoped to benefit from a president who wanted to strongarm Team USA into the quarterfinals and found out that sports can resist even an autocrat’s attempts to stack the deck,” writes Inquirer columnist Mike Sielski.
It is absolutely absurd that these shenanigans are acceptable from anyone holding public office. It was derelict when Feinstein's staff was propping her up and it's derelict coming from McConnell's office, too. The culture of the Senate needs SIGNIFICANT overhaul. Just shameful and broken.

10 transgender athletes out of more than half a million on college teams. That’s it. A cadre of hateful, and deeply weird, wealthy people paid to get their bigotry approved by a corrupt conservative Supreme Court.
NCAA president Charlie Baker told Congress in 2024 that he was aware of only 10 transgender athletes out of more than half a million students on college teams. But despite the small numbers, the issue has taken on outsized importance.

And nobody cares except us. I’m on like six unemployed black woman listservs, where everyone’s freaking out, and nobody’s like “I’m running on trying to get y’all jobs.” It’s like we’re being erased from American society.

Watched TENDER MERCIES for the first time. Spectacular magic. The film is as subdued as its characters, rich with understated emotion. People living in the aftermath of life shattering losses, but somehow they must keep living. Shoutout to @ifyoucantwell.bsky.social for the recommendation!
Weekend read is this graphic novel adaptation of Robert Bloch’s story, HELL ON EARTH. (Originally published in Weird Tales, 1942.) A writer gets a job to help raise a demon. Don’t think it’ll work out. Art by Keith Giffen. Written by Robert Loren Fleming. Cover painting by Bill Sienkiewicz

“I run the protection program.” That’s probably the most honest thing this worthless man has ever said in his career. In the midterms, let’s prove him right. Investigate them all! Then convict them.
Johnson: If we lose the midterms, these Democrats will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body, and they'll go after the president's family, the cabinet, his donors, friends, half of you in this room will be targeted. I run the protection program. We’ll take care of you.
