So much of that cost is The Coalition being on the hook for the Microsoft branch of Unreal and one of the flagship titles. I should know, I tried to get leadership to support a plan to have other studios adopt it and write off the support costs. Same problem with Turn10 and ForzaTech.

$500M for Gears of War E-Day is likely an operational cost, not the specific cost associated with Gears of War. That doesn't make it much better, but we should be specific what we're talking about. Operational cost is what kills a studio. lordsofgaming.net/2026/09/the-...

my secret backstory is i grew up watching a LOT of Star Trek because I lived at my grandparent's house & my grandad was a serious trekkie Picard was my favourite, and i am not joking, deeply shaped the person I became this person who met challenges with equal parts stoicism and warmth WAS my ideal

I’ve always been grateful to the director who told me ‘this isn’t how I’d do it, but it gets the job done.’ Not only did it save me work in the short term and build my confidence, but it gave me a really good framework for working with other creative people.

A freebie from a talk I wrote but never gave on creative direction after working on dozens of games & having directed many things myself. I unironically believe this single flowchart can save some people tens of thousands of dollars, relationships & countless wasted hours. Anti-Molyneux direction.

Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too. Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course. – George

Imagine these gpus in the hands of game devs and gamers at reasonable prices. There's so much cool stuff we could do with that compute. Weirder shaders, faster editing tools, enemy intelligence options, dynamic animation, more physics toys! I know people at Nvidia so depressed at this. I'm mad.

Business Insider confirms it: Amazon has warehouses of GPUs that can’t be installed, and is buying them so far in advance that a supply chain team said they “didn’t have a clear forecasted path” to installing them. www.businessinsider.com/amazon-220-b...

A pro-life white woman ruling that a law officer was justified in killing a Black baby seated in his mother’s lap, shooting her as well because of suspicion of stealing diapers is as accurate of a summation of how the US has historically wielded its institutions against Blackfolk as I can think of.

JUST IN: The police shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley as he sat in his mother’s lap in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, Miss., in June “was justified,” Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office said on Monday. Her office will not charge the white officer who shot the child.

Prepping for my Wednesday Azeroth home game, where the party is fighting feral worgen in a besieged Tirisfal Glades port town. En route from Silvermoon City to Menethil Harbor, I needed a stop along the way for some action—so let's add new spots to the Azeroth map and create Port Terenas!

I'm running two D&D games with my Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft cocreators right now, and both groups have just gone into the past. They're both playing the same scenario: defeat Onyxia before the Infinite Dragonflight gives her the power to conquer all and create a new timeline.

Today Benaroyal Hall is having an open house and there's a panel on videogame soundtracks with some great northwest game sound folks: @wilbertroget.bsky.social, Nadia Wheaton, Danny Baranowski and Kazuma Jinnouchi. Super fascinating to hear how they create! And really well moderated by Dave Gross.

If it must be frivolous, then as much local art to be displayed in public as I could afford: indie games funded for web+MoPop, indie films for the local small theaters, every electric box and boring building wall a mural, free local band concerts at Marymoor. Just to prove it wasn't so frivolous.

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

#Artober Day 16: Since late August, I've been trying to wake up early before the kids so I can have some uninterrupted time for creative endeavors. We're lucky to live in an area where we get peek-a-boo views of the Olympics, so I drew our view from our home office at 6:53 am.
