Monarchs have been on the decline for generations, with as much as a 99% reduction in migrating populations. The good news is that thanks to the efforts of dedicated ecologists, biologists and activists, their numbers have rebounded, and 2025 was a good year for northward numbers.

I know that some people don't think these types of things are important but I really do. Cultural change precedes political change. When you don't have the culture, it's more difficult to win politically or to sustain political wins. newrepublic.com/post/215697/...

i guess in a way this is the most widely used one, but also one that is severely underused in other ways. definitely identity. i've long been of the opinion that there are obviously cool things that come from public data and all the public pieces of the proto, but identity is higher impact.

@hailey.at what's your favorite atproto feature? Not the highest leverage/most widely used one, ideally something that you think is really elegant/clean at a conceptual level

Every time I build something I just slap atproto oauth into it. I just wrapped up an admin interface and asked for everyone's handle/did rather than "here's a bunch of credentials to put in your password manager"

i've probably posted this before, but i think its severely overrated to use atproto for the public data. it's cool, yea yea yea. but i personally care much less about it! i care far more about the proof that identity provides about who someone/myself is rather than public data
