NEW: Over the last few months, Meta has run dozens of paid ads that included AI-generated CSAM. The ads, some of which were linking out to “nudify” apps, targeted men in the US, UK, and a dozen European countries. Some were running in the last few days

Metaphor, she wrote, "has cognitive implications". I think this point is still insufficiently appreciated in science, where metaphor seems often regarded as just a means of communicating ideas. In truth it shapes those ideas - which is why metaphors matter.

Just learned that database company AirTable has been acquired by Italian firm, Bending Spoons. Their MO is to buy failing companies, lay off all the staff, and then milk it for revenue. They did this with Evernote, Vimeo, and many others. Yikes.

Great piece on what “co-” (copilot, co-author, etc) does for situating the relationship to LLMs. One thing to add: “co-“ allows just enough of the user to absorb accountability for what the model does wrong or badly, while asserting nonetheless that the model is just as capable as a person.
