When I see a conservative claim that people on the left make up disabilities to get attention or accommodations, I think about the Republican LSU sorority girl I knew freshman year who bragged to me that she used her family connections and ADHD diagnosis to get a disability parking permit on campus

People are FURIOUS at the people hanging around outside the Second Ave shelter, when anyone with even half a brain should recognize "gee that shelter is so popular and full all the time maybe we need MORE shelters and places for unhoused folks. Maybe providing housing and support actually WORKS"

Gifted kid discourse is exhausting — your mileage may vary! — but I gotta say: my weekly gifted class was the ONLY space as a post-9/11 child where I heard anything to counter the raging Islamophobia. Just recalled it's how I first found "The New Colossus." I was 8 and it knocked my socks off.
