Time of year to repost anyone eating an apple
This week, we’re picking Redlove apples 🍎 They might be small this year, but the sugars are incredible and they’re absolutely packed with flavour. We can’t wait to see what they bring to this year’s vintage. #CiderYes #DrinkGreatCider
Apple 'Gibbon's Russet'. Not very russety. Not very flavourful. A hint of melon, not much acid, not much sugar either. Dry and mealy too. I think I left this one on the tree a bit too long. Maybe next year it will impress me more.

The orchard’s really been popping this year, so I thought I’d post a few pictures of what’s in, in case there be apple admirers among you.
Antonovka. Super tart, and a good cooker.

Goldparmäne. King of the Pippins in English, Reine des Reinettes in French, I love this apple. Makes a damn good cider too. Despite what the illustrator wrote, it’s originally French, and apparently has been around since at least 1510. A very old variety.

That makes sense. I will put something together in the next couple of weeks, including a template for apple descriptions so they are consistent, and then I can recruit fellow apple nerds to assist.
What is so appealing about the name of this apple? I really like that name though.

Bike lanes arguably do more to protect pedestrians than they protect cyclists. (Shorter crossing distances, better visibility, traffic-calming effect etc)
People are rarely just pedestrians or just cyclists. We're often both and should be allies against cars. There's a difference between discussions about improving infrastructure and safety for people on foot, and the outright vilification of cyclists I'm seeing lately. It's unproductive and harmful.

"RETURN IT TO POSITION IF IT'S NOT READY"
PSA: A reminder that the best way to pick apples & pears is as easy as 1-2-3: 1. Cup the fruit in the palm of your hand 2. Lift the fruit gently towards horizontal 3. Detach the ripe fruit, or return it to position if it’s not ready 👍🍎👍 orchardnotes.com/2020/09/03/h... #apples #pears #harvesting
