This is a heartbreaking and infuriating story; but it is also not unique to Trump. This story could’ve happened at any point in the past decades. His bond was denied under a 1996 law, his healthcare is neglected by a big private prison company, and ICE plods on through the process without care.

Text:WISCONSIN HISTORICAL SOCIETY THE BLACK NITE UPRISING Eight years before New York's Stonewall Riots, the Black Nite Uprising united a community, awakened local activism, and scored an early victory for the emerging LGBTQ rights movement in the United States. On August 5, 1961, four servicemen went on a homophobic dare to the Black Nite, a well known LGBTQ tavern (400 N. Plankinton Ave.) After losing a fight with Josie Carter (1941-2014) a black woman of trans experience, the men vowed to return and "clean up" the bar. "We do not run from a fight," Josie replied. "We do not run from anything." Josie's courage was a call to action. When the servicemen returned later that night, they faced over 70 customers who heroically defended their safe space from invasion, In 2021, the Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project obtained official civic commemoration ensure the Uprising will never be forgotten. Incredible news for trans people - the Medicaid provision is out of the Trump horror bill. It did not require a point of order vote, and instead, Republicans pulled it out on their own, likely knowing they would lose the vote. Good job to everyone for calling their Senators.

"July 1st." I've had complicated feelings about this comic this year. We've seen so much quiet quitting of rainbow capitalism--a canary in the coal mine. I started wondering if I was naive to not think of when I drew this as "the good times."
