The real congratulations and thanks here are for Liam Johnston’s family. Without them, my colleague James and I could not have told this story. Thanks to CWA Canada and the Canadian Association of Journalists for the honour.

gAI appeals to management types because its output looks the same as work done by an employee because in both cases, they're often not looking too closely at what was done, but how quickly/cheaply it was done but it's the people who actually do the work that have to pay attention to the details

I believe that a lot of the backlash against AI is more fundamentally a backlash against the vilification of competence people are sick of laziness, of incuriosity, and of "efficiency" and profit at all costs and AI is the pinnacle of "it does work fast, at the expense of being right"

DRAM prices mooning will hurt everyone and might cause a consumer tech recession on its own in the next 12 months even without the AI bubble popping. Hyperscalers are going to jack up prices for cloud resources, electronics manufacturers (Apple, Samsung, etc.) will raise prices, this is gonna hurt.

Just to be blunt, if you want Wired and 404 and The Verge to employ reporters who understand the memes on bullet casings and can connect them to gaming culture while having the legal and support resources to deal with waves of harassment when we do it… you have to subscribe and pay for the work

the entire media ecosystem is just not built or ready for events like this and far right billionaires like larry ellison buying news orgs will only make this worse

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting announced today that it will begin phasing out its operations, following Congress’s recent decision to revoke previously allocated federal funding. CPB said it is initiating an “orderly wind-down” after nearly six decades.
