Book 26 of 2025: HOW TO TELL WHEN WE WILL DIE by Johanna Hedva. A book of disability-centered essays that is gross and punk and lively and philosophical and kinky and sometimes sad but never tragic. A very good read. 📚👀

The cover of Johanna Hedva’s essay collection HOW TO TELL WHEN WE WILL DIE: ON PAIN, DISABILITY, AND DOOM. A medieval-looking illustration of a man bring disemboweled and poked and prodded with various weapons decorated a light pink background intermittently dotted with red stars that evoke both a constellation and a pox.

Book 25 of 2025: RABBIT CAKE by @anniehartnett.bsky.social. More books about grief should be like this one. Grief isn’t just sad—it’s bizarre and even funny, as young Elvis (not that one) shows us in this strangely tender novel. 📚👀

This case will be familiar to those of you who have read "Murder the Truth" -- there's a whole chapter on these attacks, which are part of a broader campaign to intimidate and punish journalists who investigate rich and powerful people. www.harpercollins.com/products/mur...

The Quiet Provocation of Flying the Mexican Flag

As more Mexican flags sprouted up in my North Carolina neighborhood, I could not figure out if my neighbors wanted to symbolize immigrant pride or their fatigue over Trump’s shit.

I was so warmly welcomed to Salone Internazionale del Libro by my publisher Aboca Edizioni. My talk was packed. Aboca's area was the star of the fair: A living forest fed by water underneath a built wooden floor and benches. I can't describe how good it smelled. A hidden oasis. My books sold out!

I just listened to the Culture Study podcast episode about this book, highly recommend it. Tove speaks with a lot of nuance and the motivations of people interested in backyard chickens and farming, as well as how it's often used as propaganda, but also what the idealization says about our culture.

Taking a moment to celebrate today because my little book about chickens has over 1000 ratings! Writing and publishing can be SO punishing (I say as I’m currently querying agents because mine left the business) and it’s important to celebrate any win. 🎉🥂 #booksky #chickens
