There's a ChatGPT commercial with a lovable granny chatting it up with her brand-new pocket phone friend for hours and hours about the smallest stuff and holy shit.

“Even if you don’t agree with our specific solutions to problems, we will make sure government is responsive and accountable to you” could be a pretty seductive take for people who think that corruption is bad and voters should have more power

The problem with naming an entire family of characters after gemstones is you have to start researching different gemstones and now I want a larimar pendant with a lapis ring chaser.

Really enjoying THE DRAGON HAS SOME COMPLAINTS by John Wiswell. Barely fifty pages in and the characters are already real, with lots of hints of dire traumatic revelations to come, all of it wrapped in a three-headed dragon who needs a hug.

looking at the headlines and reflecting once again on how all the smart, hard-working, honest people I know feel like they’re going at least a little insane in our era of total Stupid Immoral Asshole ascendancy

I have no idea what to do with this Covid revisionism. It feels like the bad kind of group therapy where you help each other ignore facts. We don't have to go *that* far back in the social media timelines to prove how fucked up it was. We were so scared we were scrubbing eggs and baking the mail.

I'm reading up on the most recent Reflecting Pool stuff and I want to believe that the bare-ass naked emperor is finally getting some pushback? We've reached the point where even his most ardent supporters are like, "Oh no, that's stupid and he's wrong."

I think the right move, which I don't see enough of, is developing a synthetic philosophy of how to co-exist with all this, as humans have had to try do in past industrial revolutions. If I could convince a think tank to hire a cartoonist, I'd be doing it tomorrow instead of between projects.

Insomnia: Hey, quick question— Me: No. shut up. I haven’t even gone to bed yet. Insomnia: Yeah, but…”squirrel.” One syllable or two? Me. five hours later: …burl, girl, pearl, swirl, whorl…

Went into a whole flappy-armed tirade a week ago about how even basic routine checkups have barriers, where we need to take time off for each separate appointment, and why can't we take one day off a year and get everything done at once in the same facility and oops I invented the Mayo Clinic.

I'm working on a book proposal about eugenics and one very striking thing is how extremely eugenicist our healthcare system is compared to much of the world
