We're thrilled to share that @felipedebrigard.bsky.social has been named a 2026 MacArthur Genius Fellow for his work reshaping our understanding of the nature and function of memory. Felipe is the co-editor of "Neuroscience and Philosophy II,” publishing next month: www.macfound.org/fellows/clas...
It’s a strange kind of nostalgia I feel when I long for the future I thought in the past that the present would be.
1/ Conscious AI and Biological Naturalism. A long time in the making, but the full collection is *out now* in Behavioural and Brain Sciences I deeply thank all my many commentators for their wise, broad, and deep opinions on this critical topic.I also thank them for their saintly patience. 🙏🏽
We won’t be exterminated by the cunning brilliance of artificial intelligence but by the malevolent greed of human stupidity.
People often ask me if I use LLMs to write. My answer is always the same: I do not. They are not my intended audience.
Extremely grateful for this award and for sharing it with my good friend, Dr @sarahrobins.bsky.social

Brilliant to meet with Thomas Piketty at the Paris School of Economics. We discussed monetary and fiscal policy, bond markets, the climate crisis and global wealth taxes. Also recorded a podcast for @boldpolitics.bsky.social - out soon!
This essay is excellent.
This gorgeous essay from the social-media-less Lily Hu is everything: on what it means to "do" philosophy amidst pressure to automate it (with lessons that travel much more broadly). Rhymes with brilliant insights from @biblioracle.bsky.social @janerosenzweig.bsky.social Ted Chiang & others

Remembering as inverse causal inference
The causalism/simulationism debate has become central in contemporary philosophy of memory. Recently, however, I have suggested that the debate is largely ill-construed and have offered instead a p...

These days I've been thinking a lot about nostalgia again. Because I think what I am feeling is nostalgia for the future that, in the past, I thought the present would be. Some old thoughts in nostalgia, memory and imagination: aeon.co/essays/nosta...

When Abstract Art Moves You, Your Memories May Be Why
Why does a splash of color on canvas sometimes stop us in our tracks while other abstract paintings leave us cold?

Many have heard the expression “All models are wrong but some models are useful”. I prefer its counter-positive: “All models are wrong and most models are useless”, which I think more closely captures a lot of science.
Extremely good and important work. Thank you @bttyeo.bsky.social
Cross-validation is widely used to compare predictive performance — not just to benchmark algorithms, but for scientific applications like ranking biomarkers. But performance across folds isn't independent, so standard tests (e.g. paired t-test) inflate false positives. 2/N
Neurofriends: has anyone used the 14 channel wireless EEG headset from Emotive Epoch X for research? If so, what was your experience? #neuroscience #eeg #cognitiveneuroscience
Thank you @suttonprofessor.bsky.social can’t wait!
@felipedebrigard.bsky.social is both philosopher and neuroscientist, and AFAIK the 1st philosopher keynote at ICOM. As well as his work on memory traces, episodic counterfactuals, cognitive ontology, I'm hoping we'll get great new studies on memory and forgiveness for past wrongdoings in eg Colombia
Very excited to have this officially published: A neural state space for episodic memories A brief thread... #neuroskyence #psychscisky #cognition 🧪 @cp-trendscognsci.bsky.social
A neural state space for episodic memories
Episodic memories are highly dynamic and change in nonlinear ways over time. This dynamism is not captured by existing systems consolidation theories …
