This is not a southern problem. Up north, incarcerated people make janitorial supplies like brooms, mops, & office supplies. Out west, they can meat and produce canned foods, work factory farms, and fight wildfires. In the flyover states, our children sit in desks and ride in buses made by prisoners

Seriously, everything I read these days that emanates from the American south is utterly outrageous.

COVID wasn't enough. The racism that PAX has perpetuated/profited off of wasn't enough. The ableism shown through their organization structure wasn't enough. The blatant abuse of POC wasn't enough. We really have not learned.

We should not be standing idly by while this shit continues to taint our communities, the ones that swore protection and safety to those very groups. Y'all just don't listen - and no, this doesn't apply to the people that unfortunately HAVE to go for income. I feel like this is 2020 all over again.

and the Disabled community is something that we cannot allow to happen in our spaces anymore. Taking away accessibility, mistreating and exploiting POC for their time/energy/labor, clearly having an inherent bias towards who is at the forefront of the cons and who isn't- Miss me with that.

I'm disappointed I won't be attending PAXU solely because I won't get to see my people in person (masked up!), but aside from that, I genuinely don't want to support PAX as an organization ever again. The amount of disservice and harm that they've done to safe spaces geared towards BIPOC people-

You cannot leave prison without a documented place to stay, a job or rehabilitation program lined up, and someone to come and pick you up. There was one woman we met who was there for 2 EXTRA years at the state prison cause she had no living family and simply couldnt get a ride

"Because of Idaho’s overcrowded prison population, some women can’t access the programming that commissioners expect them to complete before they’re released... Those women remain incarcerated longer, delaying access for other women"

I am begging you, fellow marginalised people, get rid of the cop in your head telling you that your victimhood can only be acknowledged by denying the victimhood of others. Nothing that has happened to any of us is so unique that we cannot find kinship, rather than competition, with each other.

APA should be ashamed of themselves. And this is why so many of us Black people in mental health and academia are finding ourselves un- / under-employed. They used to hire us for these things. Now these organizations are demanding we ignore reality if they invite us at all. Exhausting

I’m in DC scheduled to give this talk today. But the organizers flagged slides in my deck that mention racism, structural gaslighting, New Jim Code and other themes that are off limits in the Land of the Free.
