Newsom rejecting the billionaire wealth tax is one thing. Supporting the billionaires' poison pill alternative which would ban taxes on assets permanently, end any chance to fix stepped-up basis, & could be used by an enterprising lawyer to invalidate vehicle fee or other tax changes is another.

All prisoners should have the right to vote while in prison
Arguably the biggest democracy referendum next month: Virginia is one of only three states where the state constitution says people should lose their right to vote FOR THEIR ENTIRE LIFE if they are convicted of any felony. This measure would allow anyone to vote after prison.

A world of always-on cameras and microphones on peoples' bodies is a very serious privacy and security problem for the people wearing them and for everyone around them.
Our right to conversational privacy must include freedom from others using tech to document what we are saying without our clear opt-in consent. "Otherwise, people will self-censor, and conversation will lose its spontaneity and intimacy," EFF’s @adamdschwartz.bsky.social told @yahoofinance.com.
again, part of the reason that people are not excited about AI is that it's major use cases as described by its advocates are: a. supercharging scams b. pushing you out of your job
That's just fraud, my dude. Even if you use an AI agent. It's just fucking fraud.
NEW: In ‘24, the FBI sought to launch a sweeping bribery probe that could ensnare top lawmakers, including Sen. Susan Collins. Then Trump eviscerated the FBI & DOJ public corruption teams. ProPublica unearthed the investigation and you can read it 👇 www.propublica.org/article/fbi-...
Eye popping. Court just unsealed Summary Judgment motions in New York Times v OpenAI / Microsoft. Easy to see why the AI companies had so many redactions (pink). Their own people wrote the lede for NYT, the "largest theft of labor in human history"... "more and more substitutive..." /1

I don't have any way to judge the supposed world-destroying capacities of AI run amok. (Color me highly skeptical). What I do see are billionaire CEOs using the cover of that doomer story to engage in collusive, cartel-like behavior.
